April 12 of 12

Hello again and welcome back to Chad's last year of 12 of 12. Who is this rockstar named Chad? Click here.

(If you really love Bon-photos, I'm also participating in a Spynotebook-generated project called Snapshot a Day. Yup. 365 photos in 2010. Click here to check that out at Flickr.)

As always, please enjoy my 12 of 12, even when it goes up super late (sorry; busy). Click any photo to enlarge. :)

1:14am: Email to Team Cricket Feet about Somebody's Basement. Closer and closer to launch! Yeah, baby!

8:36am: Archie and I would like to keep sleeping a little longer, please.

10:30am: Lovely Miss Chatelaine's Autumn Raspberry and Muscadine Wine Jam for my gluten-free waffle pleasure.

12:43pm: Starline Tours in Westwood.

12:57pm: UCLA MFA Showcase, about to begin! This is the kit in my lap.

2:27pm: The Mighty TicTac in front of South. Had to cure a craving for some pulled-pork nachos, stat!

3:35pm: Wall. Of. Porn.

4:08pm: We were told to bring healthy snacks for game night. I chose veggie flax chips and parmesan pepper cheese. Keith chose Ho-Hos. The Midol is not for game night. :)

5:21pm: This is how my boys take a nap. In two months, these naps will involve Quinn. Cannot WAIT!

8:17pm: Travis is sampling something called a hummingbird from Doughboys. Um, yum.

8:48pm: Dot believes she's a lapdog. Rob doesn't disagree.

9:48pm: My personal best round of Apples to Apples. I am awesome. (But Travis still won.)

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) See y'all next month! Thanks for the comments, thanks for the visits, thanks for the love. <3

12 of 12, March 2010

Hello again and welcome back to Chad's last year of 12 of 12. Who is this rockstar named Chad? Click here.

(If you really love Bon-photos, I'm also participating in a Spynotebook-generated project called Snapshot a Day. Yup. 365 photos in 2010. Click here to check that out at Flickr.)

As always, please enjoy my 12 of 12. Click any photo to enlarge. :)

2:10am: Home from class. (I got my oxygen back.) It's been a great night, but I've got an early day, so it's time for sleep, like it or not!

6:28am: Hello, pretty kitty. Keith has left for Runyon and Salema has decided my hip is a good pillow. *Yawn!* Good morning, Friday!

9:57am: I'm leaving a little bit late for my ladydate, but I feel good about traffic and my awesome "Do Not Eat iPod" shuffle filled with traveling music. Time to head out from the driveway and into the world!

12pm: Ahh... Babycakes. AnnaVo went downtown yesterday and blew a C-Note on gluten-free, vegan deliciousness. We've eaten a lunch of leftovers (so delicious) and now it's the main event: CUPCAKES! Good news: In addition to being gluten-free and vegan, they're also only 100 calories apiece. (Note: There's one little ballpark estimate-slash-lie in that last statement. Humor me.)

12:10pm: And now, introducing: IZZY! That's Izzy Schmata Tarquinio. She's a four-month-old Italian Greyhound. She is precious and really sweet.

1:04pm: We spent most of the day in AnnaVo's lovely VO studio-slash-office, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube viral darlings, discussing marketing vs. advertising, renting vs. owning, relatives vs. family, setting limits, trust, and living our dreams. We also spent a lot of time petting and playing with a puppy and a kitty (Pilky. Never saw Biscuit on this visit).

1:06pm: Anna with the tongue bandit. Such sweetness!

2:13pm: This is how Izzy spent several hours: in my lap, sleeping. She is such a love! I can't wait to be a homeowner so we can have puppies!

3:15pm: Best! Magnet! Ever!

3:45pm: Heading back to the beach from the Valley along with a few hundred thousand of my closest friends.

4:04pm: Made really good time, even on a Friday afternoon! Crossing from Brentwood into Santa Monica and getting ready for some of my favorite views: the sexy strip of exercising beautiful people running along the divided and tree-lined San Vicente, all the way to the beach.

5:27pm: Sugar coma from the cupcakes. It's time for a nap. Keith's still working on my computer (it had a spa day, today), so I'm gonna go down for a sleep cycle and then get to work!

7:10pm: Sid the MacBook still has another few hours to go, before getting back from the spa, so I'm reading another script. Defragging has been going on for quite some time, at this point, but hopefully the directory restructuring and the few passes through this process will get all its blocks back in the right places and have Sid happily running efficiently again soon.

(Sure enough, here I am working on Sid at just after midnight. So far, so good! Very nice to catch problems before they become ridiculous issues of data loss.)

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) Having a blast and ready for a blissful weekend! See y'all next month! Thanks for the comments, thanks for the visits, thanks for the love. <3

Feb 2010 12 of 12

Hello again and welcome back to Chad's last year of 12 of 12. Who is Chad? Click here. Thank you, Chad for this wonderful thing you've given us. It's so much fun to do!

(Note: I'm also participating in a Spynotebook-generated project called Snapshot a Day. Yup. 365 photos in 2010. Click here to check that out at Flickr. Woo hoo!)

Here we go! Click any photo to enlarge. :)

9:34am: Y'know, it's really hard to haul my ass out of bed when a 15-pound Maine Coon is on my hip. Yeah, my alarm went of a while ago. Sleep is feeling good, though. So...

10:51am: Time to select the Tweet of the Day for Self-Management for Actors. Ack! The book is still selling so well that we're having to supply more to our international distributor. Not complaining. But holy crap. The book usually slows down after its first few months out. Well, yippee!

11:41am: Awesome Intern Christina has arrived and we're already having lunch. Keith is off to his audition in San Diego (for America's Most Wanted, one of his all-time favorite shows) and he brought us yummy salads before he headed out. Mine is a warm goat cheese, pear, and walnut salad. YES!

1:01pm: Velveeta Jr. (AKA Awesome Intern Christina Blevins) is working on the casting wiki. This project is also happening in homes all over LA, as my contingent of interns who don't come into the home office are helping with data entry and disposal of headshots. Yup. We're going paper-free, here! THANK YOU, INTERNS!

3:35pm: Blevins brought us some Valentine's Day goodies, and took our Starbucks gift card as her present right back. No idea how much is on the card, but she said she'd use it even if it's only a buck. So, yay!

3:51pm: Thwok is such a good helper. She's holding down all of the headshots we have entered in to the casting wiki. These will now go to interns for more data entry. Awesome.

4:01pm: How I spend many minutes per day, thanks to KiKi (AKA Erik Patterson, who invited me to this evil game at the end of 2009). It's Words With Friends, a free iPhone app. And what I really love is that I can chat with people, without having my texting thingy set up on my iPhone. :) So, it's convenient and competitive. Love!

5:28pm: Hello, gorgeous! It's Cîroc, and it loves me.

5:42pm: Reviewing this week's calendar. Ah. It wasn't my imagination. This week was frickin' crazy busy.

6:52pm: Keith is headed to the market to buy me a potato for baking. Yup. That's what I want for dinner. Thank you.

7pm: Have to say, I'm pretty thrilled that PUPPY CAM is back. We were so into this in 2008 that we even bought the 2009 Shiba Inu Pups Calendar. :\ (Yes, we're geeks.) So, yay! A new litter. And they're so much fun to watch now that their little personalities are coming out. These are the best weeks, coming up! Right now, they're still all wobbling around like drunken frat boys. I love that.

8pm: Finally, it's time to pick a new publicity photo. Alex Petrovich of Holloway Pictures shot me (and Keith) earlier this month and sent some amazing proofs our way. Ah... it's been over a decade since I did a formal "sitting" for photos. I'm out of practice. But I hope we'll find a winner in here somewhere, as we relaunch Brand Bonnie Gillespie.

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) Life is good, and keeps getting goodlier. :) Thanks, everyone, for the feedback and love! XO

January 12, 2010

12 of 12 for January 2010

Welcome back to Chad's last year of 12 of 12. Who is Chad? Click here. Why is this the last year for Chad? He's feeling done. Boy, don't I know how that goes! So, thank you, Chad for this wonderful thing you've given us. It's been so much fun to do!

(Note: I'm also participating in a Spynotebook-generated project called Snapshot a Day. Yup. 365 photos in 2010. Click here to check that out at Flickr.)

Here we go! Click any photo to enlarge. :)

5:50am: Keith's alarm (not this old digital clock--a gift from Fulton Federal, when I opened an account with them in 1989--don't think we've used the alarm or radio function for a decade now; bless the PDAs) has gone off and he's headed to Runyon. I'm headed to another sleep cycle, thank you.

7:32am: Now, I'm up. Thwok is with me in the bathroom. She loves the sink. Monkey in a sink. Nothing cuter. Evil monkey!

10:51am: I'm addicted. I can't stop playing the free iPhone app called "Words with Friends." Kiki (Erik Patterson) turned me on to it over the holiday break and I've got about 22 games going right now. If you want to play me, my username is bonniegillespie. I really love this game!

11:50am: I've finished my body test on Wii Fit (I'm 24 years old, in Wii Fit years, today, and I'm down 3.2 pounds from yesterday, which is a bit ridiculous) and it's time to commence training. I've put in a LOT of hours, overall, huh?

12:25pm: Training is over. A half-hour is about all my bum ankle can take. But I'm thrilled my ankle can take it at all. I was missing the workouts. I'm so glad to be back at it. Ankle's getting stronger and stronger. Just wish the pain would stop!

1:14pm: My supercute Yôl T-shirt from Mason McCulley. I love it! I'll be putting it on after a quick shower and ankle soak.

1:46pm: Time to lube up and wrap my ankle. Using the last of the great anti-inflammatory gel my awesome ex-boyfriend got me in Australia, when I turned my ankle and fell down the stairs. The meds in Australia are awesome. I need to import some Nurofen+. The "plus" stands for codeine. Yes! Over the counter, baby. Ahh... that's long gone. Took most of it while in Sydney, natch. That's when the pain was its worst.

3:34pm: Time to walk to Third Street Promenade with my sweetheart. That place where the street looks like it ends, a couple of blocks down? Yeah, that's the beach. I know. I love where we live too. It's awesome.

3:58pm: Satisfying a craving. Johnny Rockets' chili cheese fries. A thousand calories of heaven. (I can only eat this about once every two years or so, but when I want it, I really really want it. That was today. Totally worth it.) Still can't figure out why the Bee Gees were in heavy rotation on the Johnny Rockets' jukebox. Something is... off... about that.

4:25pm: Pacific Coast sunset at Arizona and Third Street. Just lovely. I so love where we live!

5:34pm: We've spent time at the Apple Store, where a genius actually helped us fix a Mail settings issue we've been working on for months. No, I'm still not satisfied with Mail and Address Book and iCal as a replacement for Entourage, but this little bug fix certainly helps. Yay, Madison! Thank you! Anyway, now we're at Barnes and Noble, buying a couple of good ol' fashioned books. Have to visit our baby, Self-Management for Actors, while we're there.

6:20pm: The kitties were being inappropriately rambunctious, so we decided to calm 'em down by getting 'em stoned. A healthy dose of catnip always does the trick. This is Salema, baked. And now... they sleep. Ah. That's good parenting!

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) Keep on rockin', good folks! LYMI!

December 13, 2009

12 'o 12 'o the last month 'o the '09, y'all!

I know, I know... it's getting down to the fact that the only blog posts I make are about the 12. Well, thank you, Chadtastic, for that. :) At least there's somethin'. :) And such.

And if the Facebook keeps up its craptastic ways, I'll be back here more often than ever. And then some. :\ I know, what a badass, threatening some mega complex of people-moving with my gone-ness. Whatevs.

Anyway!

1:47am: Up after a ridiculous three-hour nap at the end of Friday, putting the finishing touches on the TOS and submission release form for the new distribution venture Cricket Feet will be launching totally on the downlow during the holiday season. Yes! All early birds FTW! I can't even get into how awesome this is. :) Stay tuned!

2:53am: Yes, I'm heading for the sleep, but first I'm posting a tribute to my lovely stepson, who is 11 today. What a great kid! (Photo from our last dinner together, July 2009.) Loves you, Quinn! Enjoy the snow. :) We'll see you in 5.5 months. :)

10:47am: Some random Alvarado Street market, on the way--in the rain--to the first WriteGirl event of the new season! Love the umbrellas, things for sale, and wilingness to make it happen, even the rain. That's America, people. :)

12:22pm: Realizing she's been my mentee for nearly a year, and we've not yet had an official photo together... this is my rockstar Alejandra. She's now a junior, and I've been working with her every couple of weeks since early in her sophomore year. Ah, I so enjoy our time together! Like I've said, WriteGirl does more for me than for her, every day. :) I'm so grateful she lets me share HER with me. :)

2:36pm: Write, WriteGirl, write! I love this organization and I am so grateful to be a part of it! Thank you, Annie Wood, for the hookup. :) See you tomorrow at YOUR partay!

5:15pm: Heading out to Tegan's holiday party. Prepped with chocolate dreamwhip pie (Keith's speciality), spinach dip (the only thing I know how to make), and wine. We've just had a HUGE conversation about the tech specifics behind our new distribution venture, and it's kind of intense. But in the end, there's party hopping to do, so we'll work out these specifics shortly. :) Stay tuned! It's gonna be... well, awesome. :)

6:40pm: This is one of the MANY reasons that Tegan's parties are so fantastic. Detail. Decorating apples for the wassail (with cloves). Aweseomesauce!

6:49pm: Dude. Kara Lipson's spicy candied bacon is not photographed, but it totally changed my world. Totes. Cannot wait to have it again. :) There has been recipe Googling. Seriously. Meanwhile, this is the spread at Tegan's, for round one. Believe me, there was a fuck-ton more, shortly! :) Tegan's is all about the kitchen!

7:36pm: I can't EVEN get through to you about how this sounds. Seriously. You don't get it. Even if you love four-part harmony and think you understand, you don't get it. It was amazing. I teared up and, I'm told, I didn't even hear the show-stopper. Amazing. Beautiful. It's like why I love Glee. Show up and sing in harmony for no reason and I swoon. Thank you, friends, for the celebration.

8:12pm: Well, time to show up at party number two of the night, after another big-ass drive through the rain. This is Lisa's early spread. I think she kind of has the same deal as at Tegan's: Show up with a shareable app. And then, no matter when you're in the mix, there's something you've made that makes someone happy! :) And dig in! :)

9:23pm: I have lots of reasons for loving Lisa Soltau. Lots. One is, she let me cast her in one of the last plays we both did before we stopped acting. Two, she says I'm the reason she got into casting, as she had left town and I sent her a copy of Casting Qs. It gave her ideas. And hope. And now, she's a famous rockstar casting director. And one of my besties for seriously nearly a decade, at this point. Small freakin' world!

10:38pm: It's getting interesting, as all parties do. But Keith and I have been really good (read: virgins) and it's time to go home. Damnit. We owe all y'all a ridiculous amount of inappropriate behavior. Eep! Three parties tomorrow? Really? Ack! Well... if you say so! G'nite!

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) Keep on rockin', good folks! LYMI!

Nov. '09 12 of 12

Happy 12 of 12, everyone!

(I know, I know. It's LATE! I have been bizzzzzzzy. Phew! But here it is. :) Finally. Enjoy!)

If you're new to 12 of 12, please visit birthday boy Chad Darnell (okay, yesterday was his awesome b'day) for all the info. And then join us. Play with us. It's super fun to see what's going on all over the world on the 12th of each month!

12am: Fudging the time on this by a few hours. This is the firepit poolside atop the London in West Hollywood. My lovely friend Eric is in town for a week and we try to get together when he comes to LA. Last night, we went to an early dinner with Keith and Ryan at Dan Tana's (and scored awesome 45th anniversary pins from Michael) and then Eric, Ryan, and I went back to Eric's hotel for laughs, games, drinks, and more laughs.

12:30am: Again fudging the time probably. Ryan and Eric, after our third round of Celebrity. Finally winding down after having been on our outing since 5pm. Such a good night!

2:06am: Trying to wrap my brain around the time difference in Australia, seeing as I'll be there in a week, teaching. Ack!

7:34am: Fleece sheets! My favorite part of this time of year. :) (My least favorite part? The nose bleeds. Why is it so dry? Why?!?)

9:33am: Thwok comes to "make biscuits" on me. (She really likes the fleece sheets.) Momma always called it "making biscuits" because it's like she's kneading dough. Keith calls it "doing the kitty dance." Either way. Love it.

11:31am: Doing more prep and promotion for AIPA (that's the Australian Institute for Performing Arts) and the trip to Sydney to teach. Getting word that there may be some changes to my trip, but I'm trying not to get nervous. Yet. And remembering that even if they do push my dates, I have a 12-month work visa for Australia and will be there at some point.

12:49pm: Executing the casting LOI for a pilot I'll be working on when I get back from Australia. Very much looking forward to getting started on the cast lists and offers. It's a great script with a fantastic crew and the show bible is coming along nicely. Yay! So, next step is executing the casting deal memo, but this gets us on the road to that.

4:09pm: I am excellent at vehicular makeup artistry. Excellent!

7:34pm: Class Rules! Oh, I am so gonna miss facilitating this collective of awesomeosity every week. Well, good news, we will launch quarterly retreats starting with the Self-Management for Actors seminar in January. Meanwhile, one more week with the awesomeness that is Jacob Motsinger, Trevor Downie, Jackie Clifford, Chari Pere, Eli Schiff, William Christopher Ford, Amro Salama...

7:35pm: ...Phoebe Parker, Ryan Basham, [then that's me,] Kathi Carey, David Nathan Schwartz, Rebecca Norris (and, not pictured, Anne Arreguin, Kevin Ashworth, Leah Cevoli, Bill Ferris, Vivian Gray, Keith Johnson, Erich Lane, Konstantin Lavysh, Sarah Logan, Michelle Luchese, Jeff Nichols, Maria Ochoa, Tanya Perez, Ashley Rose, Jay Ruggieri, Regina Virk).

9:43pm: Pitch Clinic in full effect. Kathi is pitching a great new film (one I hope to cast for her next year).

11:59pm: Ah, Trevor interpreting Michael Jackson at our post-class haunt of the past six weeks (and one more before we're through), Pineapple Hill Saloon. Greatness in the 818. Love it!

Oh, and if anyone is looking to read the punchline on the Australia booking (and some BIG news about a new casting gig and distribution of a film I previously cast--that'd be Another Harvest Moon, y'all) click right here. Thanks! :) It's good. It's very, very good. :)

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12. :) Keep on rockin', good folks!

October '09 12 of 12

Another month already? Wow!

If you're new to 12 of 12, please visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Play with us. It's fun to see what's going on all over the world!

1:56am: Starting this month's 12 of 12 by watching a feel-good vid I featured as last week's Self-Produced Clip of the Week at my column. It's a "lipdub" of the song I Gotta Feeling (this was called "lip-sync" back in my day, but "lipdub" is pretty cute) and I cannot watch it without both laughing and tearing up with joy for the creative spirit.

3:58am: I'm still completely enchanted by the sweet smell of the blooms on my patient hubby's hoya. Today marks our seventh nonaversary (as we celebrate the day we didn't get married. It saved our relationship). Here's a vid I recently did about PATIENCE, and the lesson the hoya continues to teach me, lately.

5:20am: Posting today's Self-Management for Actors tweet then going to bed while Keith works out at Runyon. Our schedule is totally whacked out, but it seems to work for us.

10:33am: Archie is an early warning system. He stands on my head just before Keith gets back from Runyon. He finds it charming. Me? Much less so.

2pm: Thanks to iCal, I live a very colorful life.

2:02pm: Another day, another producer query form on a cast-contingent financing casting gig. C'mon, money! I know indie film is always a project of passion. Let's have some funding flow, universe! Yeah!

4:50pm: Keith and I have headed out to our local costume shop to narrow down the costume choices for our big Classaversary-slash-Cricket Feet Showcase Retirement-slash-Allie's b'day and Chairman's b'day party. The theme is "Rock of Ages." Can you guess who I'm going to be? ;)

4:54pm: One of many walls of masks and costumes at Ursula's. They really like the upsell here. Once they saw Keith walking around with a stethoscope, it was all about the scrubs and lab coats and rubber gloves. Uh... no. Just a mullet, please!

5:03pm: Keith before... and after on the way! Rock it, Dr. Noah Drake! Yeah!

5:29pm: Costume shopping over for today. Parked atop one of Santa Monica's city structures with a lovely view of the storm that's rollin' in over the Pacific Ocean. Oh, how I love where we live! (Hey, does anyone know what's up with the tents parked out by the pier? Usually they go up in February for the Independent Spirit Awards. Not sure what's up this week, but the tents are all over the place.)

6:54pm: Stopped by Copa d'Oro to meet up with Cheryl before our ladydate screening of Fame. So excited! (NOT so excited about Copa d'Oro lately. Gonna have to learn how to jalapeño-infuse my vodka for passionfruit cocktails at home, methinks.)

7:16pm: Fame! I wanna live forever! (Hey, so what do they do with this lobby art/large-scale installation stuff after the movie leaves the theater? Anyone know?) As for what I thought of the movie, I thought it was good and I definitely went on the ride. I'm a sucker for anything in which people break into song and dance spontaneously. :) I LOVED the moments (very carefully chosen, it seems) that were shot-by-shot replications of the original and I really appreciated that they didn't do too much of that at all. Very well-played. Saw some VERY talented young actors--including Kay Panabaker, whose words of wisdom I quoted in a column last year, after I moderated a kid actor panel discussion for SAG Foundation. She's brilliant. And SO has her shit together. Overall, GLAD I saw it. Best as a matinee movie with kiddos, probably. :) A very good day!

As always, thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Ever so much fun! Woo hoo!

Sept. '09 12 of 12

New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Play with us. It's fun!

8:53am: Archie's reaction to the alarm going off is similar to mine: Just five more minutes, okay?

11:01am: Clicking "Remove from Friends" via iPhone since Facebook doesn't offer blocking of non-stop fan page suggestions. Other reasons I click "Remove from Friends" on at least three or four people, daily? Here.

11:17am: Sleeping on Wii Fit. Time to wake my lazy Mii up and get back to the workout!

12:34pm: Adding today's purchase to the Prosperity Game list. Will email same to AnnaVo, as we're playing together! The goal is to spend another grand every day. You start by paying off debts and buying things you need, but eventually there's so much money to spend, you start really getting into the flow of prosperity. It's already awesome, one week in! Thanks, Anna! :)

2:04pm: Had a couple of meetings today, but we moved one to Sunday and another to now on iChat, so we can to go to my niece Tiffany's b'day BBQ in Pasadena! Yippee! I'm so glad she moved here. :)

2:28pm: New favorite gluten-free dish: Melrose Made Gourmet Broccoli Souffle. Low-cal too! Seriously. 130 calories a serving (and there are four servings in that photo). YUM! I so love finding new gluten-free yummies.

2:41pm: Yippee! Santa came early (thanks, honey)! Going to see the Pixies in November! Yippee! So very excited! :)

4:44pm: Me with my niece Tiffany on her 25th b'day. So glad to spend this time with her. :)

6:55pm: My brother Bill and many racks of ribs. Seriously. That's a lot of food. And, MAN, was it tasty!

7:17pm: My brother and his shades, which have their own Facebook page!

7:24pm: My lovely niece Tiff on her 25th b'day having ribs and corn. Oh, and GO DAWGS! Yay!

11:41pm: I love my beautiful niece! Yes, we get told we look alike ALL the time. Luckily, neither of us seems to mind. :) Happy b'day, Tiff! And welcome to your new home. What an exciting time! I love you.

Thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss! Love, love!

My Totally Fake 12 of 12 for August 2009

So, I've been a part of 12 of 12 for a few years now. New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Come play! It's fun!

This particular day was originally filled with all sorts of awesomeosity. But then I traveled. And apparently I've become a huge wimp for travel. So I needed to cancel most of my day today--which had loads of good photo ops in place for the coolness of 12--because I was really feeling my trip. I needed sleep. So I took it. :)

But, I took (and twittered) tons of pics during my trip--and I'm deciding that's fair game for the photo essay. As far as I'm concerned, that's still a technically-appropriate 12 of 12 and here it is. :) (Note: All times are Pacific.)

4:00pm, 4 Aug.: Page 5 weekly Variety in my right hand, page 3 daily Variety in my left. This is a casting dream come true, y'all! I've never cast a film with enough of a budget to even hint at affording ads in the trades. This is so dang cool. And the headline: "Ensemble cast from heaven," seriously. That's so amazing. Thank you.

9:17pm, 6 Aug.: First official pic of the 2009 Rhode Island International Film Festival: I'm ticketed and security-cleared in record time. (Thank you, Kevin, for the ride to LAX!!) It's now, officially, cocktail hour!

9:48pm, 6 Aug.: They're offering $300 to stay in LA tonight. I have a middle seat. In coach. Please, people, smell fresh.

5:21am, 7 Aug.: I'm seriously shocked that I made the train with two minutes to spare. Our delay on the tarmac at LAX really cut it close. Still, made the train and I'm now leaving beautiful Boston, and oh, so quickly! PS--trains could teach planes a LOT about how to make passengers feel comfy. Just sayin'.

12:14pm, 7 Aug.: I've scored an early check-in (the trade-off was having to accept a smoking room. On a smoking floor. In a 100-year-old hotel. Which meant EVERYTHING smelled like smoke. But honestly, I so needed to sleep that I'd have accepted a room in which a man stood over my sleeping head, blowing smoke into my face) and after a nap, I'm trying to retrieve my pass for for the Rhode Island International Film Festival. For some reason, they've given it to producers. So I have to track them down to get it. Good thing that's easy! I'm so looking forward to time with the amazing Kathi Carey at this point. Her film has gotten amazing press!

1:01pm, 7 Aug.: This is where things get good. I've met Ernest Borgnine, Doris Roberts, and Anne Meara. Sparred comically with Jerry Stiller. Flirted with producers. Life is good. And when Anne Meara says, "Pass this pizza to that lady," I've accepted. Eff that gluten, baby! (Paying for that now. But worth it!)

3:58pm, 7 Aug.: We've been carted over in the fancy rides and now we stand in front of the poster for Another Harvest Moon at the premiere venue. Sold out. A line down the street. First time I'm seeing the poster, and phew! They spelled my name right. ;) If this is all that happens, I am so happy.

6:18pm, 7 Aug.: Another Harvest Moon premieres to a packed house and standing ovation. Next, the cast Q&A. This is where I got my moment. I will never forget it. Thank you, most amazing director Greg Swartz. Next, the after-party. Awesome! All of it. Just... I'm really feeling the moment.

6:17am, 8 Aug.: Press for Another Harvest Moon continues today. Meara and Borgnine on NBC10 this morning. Awesome.

5:31pm, 8 Aug.: WaterFire event in Providence with Kathi Carey. Loving this!

11:40am, 9 Aug.: At Fort Point/South Boston missing Keith something fierce! On the hunt for lobster, baby. Thank you, Julie, for the suggestions!

12:29pm, 9 Aug.: Since there's Legal Seafood at Logan, I decided to try Chau Chow City's huge ginger crab. Bring it! Oh Sweet Jesus, they weren't kidding! No tools. No cracks in the shell. No help. This was the most ridiculous lunch of my life. Served with chopsticks only. And a napkin. It totally made my day!

1:06pm, 12 Aug.: Came home to my awesome photo from the NOH8 campaign, thanks to the amazing Adam Bouska. Dayum, I look good! Of course, I wish this campaign didn't exist, but I'm so proud to be a part of the silent protest.

Thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss! Love, love!

July 2009 12 of 12, baby!

New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Play with us. It's fun!

Okay. Dude.

I love my life. I love my friends. I love gruyère cheese with a fiery passion that is unnatural and understandable (thank you, Jay). And, without a doubt, I have the BEST friends on the planet. Here's how I know.

9:00pm: People I've known for nearly a decade will come out and join me in celebration of my birthday (7/11) when I ask them to. (And even the day before. Sorry, Kim.) They'll gather 'round me and make me look beautiful, just by being near me. (L-R: Marc, Robin, Bon, Kim)

9:01pm: Newer friends (Karla) will bring friends with common interests (Greg: Atlanta, theatre) and it'll turn out that we (Greg and I) have crossed paths back in 1993, when he directed me in one of the very last plays I did before leaving Atlanta for Los Angeles. Crazy, small world. Mostly crazy! (L-R: Bon, Kim, Karla, Greg)

9:03pm: Showcase alumni will turn out for the party even though their folks are in town. Yep. Tristan showed up with mom and dad in tow. Even bragged on the Facebook about teaching them the ways of the Hollywood karaoke crowd. They seemed pleased at their daughter's ability to freestyle. (L-R: Ben, Tristan, Bon)

9:19pm: Friends will come out via candlelight (thanks, Laura) for birthday awesomeness. Those who don't come will send corsages which I'll pass around to make all of my friends wear. (Thank you, Brooke.) Those who come will bring cards and treats and most of all love and songs. How CUTE are my friends? SO CUTE! (L-R: Julie, Marc)

10:06pm: Even if they're not the singing type, they'll be there. They'll be social. They'll be supportive. They'll be seriously good-looking. (My GAWD, do I have the most attractive friends on the planet or what???) Jeebus, it's good to have my worldview.

10:08pm: They'll huddle up and talk shop. They'll compare notes on various projects in the works. They're just a bunch of working pros in this industry and they happen to also be awesome people. I'm so lucky! (L-R: Laura, Michelle, Bon, Jeff)

10:10pm: And then--perhaps most importantly--they will stop whatever they are doing and pay attention to their friend Birthday Bon when she takes the mic to sing some Benatar. They will cheer and clap and even take their clothes off ('til they're told not to, by the establishment) and will--more than anything--just have fun being there. Which is the point, really.

10:59pm: They'll celebrate every moment. Because, why wouldn't you? I mean, this isn't actually my b'day, but it's the day we decided to come play. Like Thursdays are. Like many other days are. We just rock like that, and it's all a delicious reminder of how amazing my life is, filled with so many wonderful people. (L-R: Ryan, Marc, Trevor, Jacob, Bon, Phoebe, Erich, Shelley, Candice... awesome waitress Jessica in the background)

11:21pm: Lest you think Keith isn't out and about, let me be sure you know, he's holding court in the back of the club. He's campaigning for a seat on the Hollywood and National Boards of SAG. And he's got a lot of great ideas. We should be so lucky to have him fighting to unify and protect performers' rights. (L-R: Eli, Keith, Bon, Brendan, Chelsea)

12:27am: Wait, technically, no longer the 12th. Welp, y'know what? It's also not been my b'day, but we were celebrating as if it were. So, we'll keep calling this the 12th 'til the camera stops clicking. And here we are, in a serenade unlike any other. My god, I love my friends! (L-R: Trevor, Jacob, Tanya, Bon, Ryan, Chil, Cristina)

1:19am: We suspect we'll have to leave soon, but we're just too cute to stop posing. I mean, really. Could you love us more? No way. We're just that adorable! (L-R: Jacob, Bon Erich, Joel, Cheryl, Dustin)

1:29am: And because no night is complete without a lapdance, here's the lapdance. Oh, you thought maybe I should get it? Nah! Tanya had it coming, after trying to make sure Jacob got one on his b'day a few days earlier. So glad Boardwalk 11 has a pole!

How do I even begin to truly thank my amazing, thoughtful, supportive, wonderful, creative, smart, gorgeous, fantastic friends? Many more than these in the few 12 of 12 photos shared tonight. I'm just so beyond lucky and every day is better than the one before it because each day creates another opportunity to connect with my super-cool friends. Y'all ROCK my world. Please don't ever doubt that.

It's a long day tomorrow... and tomorrow is just moments away, as I type this up after 3:30am. I'm so excited to cast some new projects and bring in some of those very same actors who helped me close down the bar in celebration of my existence. What a blessing! I just don't know how to express my gratitude beyond gushing like crazy. I am filled with love.

What a way to be!

Thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss! Love, love!

June 12, 2009

12 of 12 for June 2009

New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Join us! It's ever so much fun to see what's going on all over the world on a single day.

12:04am: Ooh, I was so bummed to have to leave the Class Rules! gang and come home, but mom duties trump work duties every time. Keith had to stay for a production meeting with some of the awesome actors, the writer/producer, and the DP, so I came home, listened to the cutie sleeping, and then hit the rain shower.

12:53am: Had intended on going straight to bed, but gluten-free Rice Chex were calling. The question then becomes: Do I log this meal in my Thursday calorie calculator or is it a Friday meal? Hmm... Well, since I was a good 600 calories below for Thursday, we'll call it a Thursday meal.

8:20am: Aaannnndddd... we will pay for that late-night snack in the ayem. Yep. Got on Wii Fit for my 333rd day and was promptly told by the 'puter that my weight was up since yesterday. Whatever. One thing I've learned in losing over 60 pounds since December 2007 is that you cannot--absolutely cannot--get stressed out over the weight changes from day to day when the overall trend is down.

10:02am: Brunch with the fabulous Debbie Pollack. (Can't quite figure out why you recognize her? Click that link. Sure. You know her. "Oh, sexy GIRL-friend!") She's recently had her colors done and is showing me all sorts of neat color-related discoveries. (We also talked about her upcoming headshot session and an inspiring commercial workshop she's taken.) Great to get perspective on the whole Just Get Better issue and how the true pros really do get it.

10:28am: Brunch! It's a gluten-free six-veggie quiche. When I got home and showed this photo to Quinn, he said, "Blech." I don't blame him. It doesn't actually look as amazing as it is.

11:32am: But Quinn has more important things to focus on. Today is his half-birthday, and we love celebrating this time together! Dad heads into the kitchen and starts whipping up something that smells sooo good. (Damn gluten.)

12:08pm: Quinn has really been enjoying doing The Quinn Show on Facebook. Today there was an epic battle between some Pokemon critters and it was pretty dang intense there for a while. Phew! We all survived and will live to shoot another important episode tomorrow.

2:11pm: The cake has cooled enough for father and son to begin the decorating process. The half-birthday celebration is coming very soon. The whole house smells like delicious cake and there is excitement buzzing all through the space. Half-birthday boy is dancing and laughing and filled with love.

3:26pm: Ah, but there is much work to be done. I'm tweaking the HTML code for Self-Management for Actors so that we can upload the file to Amazon.com for its Kindle delivery service. Any thoughts on how we should price it? Somewhere between $6.95 and $9.95 we're thinking. But I've never paid to download even an e-book, so this is totally out of my territory. Any Kindle users or e-book lovers care to weigh in on what a $29.95 in-print book should go for, electronically? Anyway, the code-tweaking process is tedious, as the code needs to be way simpler than any major WYSIWYG editor would churn out. I'm coding like it's 1995.

5:22pm: I was just talking this morning with Debbie about how chilled out I am when people cancel plans on me, these days. That I will instead treasure the extra time it's giving me to do other things, experience things I might otherwise miss. And sure enough, my playdate with The Answer B!tch (from E! online) was called off. No Father's Office for me. No bitch session. Instead, I get to code HTML and enjoy watching my beautiful stepson chilling out. Awesome.

6:00pm: Sending out a notice to the Cricket Feet Mailing List that I'll be doing a Resumé Workshop for SAG iActor on Monday, June 22nd at 7pm. Very excited to be back for more. :) Also booked another event with the Reel Ladies group. I definitely need an assistant. (Right, Ryan?)

8:24pm: Me and my boys. I am so effin' happy I can't contain myself. Jeez, this is so my favorite time of the year. The lovely Helenna Santos mentioned last night how much she dug how sweet Quinn and I are together. I said, "He softens me." It's really wonderful to have him here. To connect with the "non-career-manic" part of myself in a more complete way than I happen to connect here and there throughout the year. It's just awesome. He is just awesome.

As always, thanks, everyone, for stopping by. Crazy busy weekend ahead, with a playdate with Tegan and her gals tomorrow, plus the WriteGirl season-ending event on Sunday. Gotta get my column done in there somewhere! Anyway! Thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss!

12 of 12 for May 2009

Well all right! This day was CRAZY busy and I'm typing up this blog entry using the 'puter we call The Chicklet (and she was bought after I got hired on my first casting gig, well over six years ago) b/c Keith decided to work on my 'puter (called Sid, bought 18 months ago, and apparently in BIG need of a defrag) and the most fun part of all of this is the fact that three keys are missing or misplaced on this 'puter, and I'm having to *really* watch myself to be sure I'm getting my letters right.

It's like I'm back in Ms. Prosser's keyboarding class all over again. "Y'all sound like a bunch of chickens peckin'! A-S-D-F..." and so on.

So, here's the awesomenss that is 12 of 12. New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Join us! It's ever so much fun to see what's going on all over the world on a single day. And if you have famous friends, they like to schedule visits with you on 12 of 12 dates and put on fancies. :) It's cool like that.

7:09am: Good morning goodbye kiss from Keith as he heads out to Runyon Canyon. He's doing like 30 miles of biking (to and from) and then 90 minutes at Runyon four days per week. Seriously. He's a little insane.

8:19am: Me on the other hand? I do a nice, easy Wii Fit program. I'm now welcomed to Day 302 of Wii Fit and Abraham. My Mii is psyched! And so am I. Nah, I may not have fast results, but I do have results. I'll be at goal weight by my birthday. I'm less than ten pounds and two months away. Crazy awesome!

10:11am: My theme of the month of May continues. Being on time makes me a half-hour early for everything. (Love how Mercury Retrograde slows so many people down.) While waiting for the awesome Aussies, I ate all of the almonds and dried cranberries. Yum! My tea was the weakest one they offer. That's my preference, since I generally don't do caffeine or anything like that.

11:47am: Lunch meeting with Cristina Cimellaro at Raw in Santa Monica. Love a place where there's nothing that could ever do me harm. Such good food! Good meeting too!

12:57pm: Archie lobbies for a post-lunch meeting nap. I decide to cuddle for a few moments, but it doesn't last. There's much work to do!

2:42pm: First time on Facebook in 32 hours. 15 friend requests, 10 messages, 17 events, 73 notifications. Eep!

3:29pm: This just in: 48 new pitches on K-Town, P.I. from Innovative. Loves me some casting buzz on a rockstar script!

4:52pm: Anna Vocino test driving the Flawless Aloetini Gimlet. Thank you, Cheryl, for the Flawless. Thank you, Tamika, for the Aloe. :)

6:05pm: AnnaVo checking the Interwebs for more fan mail. I mean, when you voice the evil chipmunk on Y&R, how can you NOT get flooded?

8:18pm: Oh, how I loves me some Houston's, with the sand candle and the Marvin the Martian condiment caddy! And the sushi and the wine, natch! Goooooood dinner! Goooooood times!

8:39pm: Anna shopping at Sur la Table. Watch out! There's much to pop into the bag, here!

8:46pm: Because my 12 of 12 is looking like an "I stalk Anna Vocino" tribute, here's me w/ small wooden bowls. I mean, let's just call it a "bonus pic" this month. :) Might as well make an appearance, right? And who doesn't love small wooden bowls in a stack like that?

8:55pm: To be fair, there's no reason not to stalk Anna. I mean, check out the gams for the fans as we shop our asses off at Sur. We now have too much to carry home, BTW. Good thing we're only a few blocks away. Next there will be more snacks and bevvies and Wii and laughing and vibing. No photos... gals gotta keep some stuffs behind the curtain.

As always, thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss, kiss!

April 12, 2009

12 of 12 April 09

Hello the end of April 12th. :) I'm sooo ready to sleep. Today's 12 of 12 is an all in-house version, but a busy day, nonetheless. Not sure what 12 of 12 might be? Please stop by Chad Darnell's site for all the info. He created it and he's a badass. Please consider joining us next month! It's ever so much fun to see what's going on all over the world on a single day. :)

6:23am: Why am I up so early after having been up so late? Ridiculously long weekend, and today was no exception. Not complaining! I love my life. Lots of work, and work is always good. :)

8:19am: How Thwok helps with the clean towels. She also helps like this with papers. She keeps things from floating away. I appreciate that about her.

8:48am: Redoing show order for the Cricket Feet Showcase based on yesterday's Last Looks. A giant logic puzzle! Thank you, graphics goddess, Shelley Delayne, for redoing the program... again!

1:10pm: Catching up on TiVoed 90210 while outlining tomorrow's column. Showcase show order is now locked, and I'm just so dang glad that they finally did a rerun of the 90210 that came before all of the other episodes I had stashed in the TiVo. Finally! I could catch up. Man, this show is dripping with... 90210-ocity.

2:56pm: Lunch! Gluten-free vegan pumpkin tortellini w/ beet purée from Planet RAW. I love that there's not a single thing on their menu I can't have! Deeeelish!

4:03pm: I did a workshop with Osbrink for a visiting group of young actors. This lovely bottle of Marilyn Merlot (LOL, right?) is a gift from the Atlanta Workshop Players. I was an AWP kid. So much fun to connect with them on "the other side" now. I'll open this after the column is turned in. Heh!

5:31pm: Going through email at my Showfax account for tomorrow's "Self-Produced Clip of the Week." Lots to choose from!

6:59pm: Now Keith takes a break from online house hunting to hear me read tomorrow's column before I turn it in. I like to run everything past someone, out loud, to be sure I'm saying what I want to say. ;) Yes, this is why the most common feedback I get about my writing is that it "sounds" like me. It's workshopped aloud.

8:22pm: Time to sample the post-column Marilyn Merlot and 175 calories of pistachios. Excellent snack!

8:47pm: Ooh, hurry back, awesome intern. Mail overflows! (Plus, we miss you.)

9:41pm: Free to a good home: Panasonic KX-FPG391 phone/fax/copier/talking caller ID thingy. Seriously. We've been liberated of landline living (and have made Nancy--my original iPhone--our forever home phone, wherever we live) and that means this contraption is FREE to a good home! The talking caller ID is my favorite part. :) C'mon... want it? It's yours. Or it's out in the alley for some tinkerer to pick up.

10:27pm: The end of my 12of12, but not the end of my day. A nice, hot shower. Yum! Long day tomorrow that ends with a fun speaking engagement to actors and filmmakers. I'm feeling bed soon. But there's still work to do... so...

As always, thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. Keep on rockin', everyone! :)

Mar09 12 of 12

Oh, my lordy, what a looooooong day. I really need to get to sleep, because tomorrow (er, later today) is an even loooooooonger day and with even more meetings than the three I had today. Ack! And eep! And yay! :)

So welcome back to 12 of 12. New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Join us! It's ever so much fun to see what's going on all over the world on a single day.

9:20am: My beloved Keith and his beloved Archie. Good morning, sunshines! Let's start the day, please!

11:41am: Awesome intern is sorting headshot postcards, a few headshots from recent scouting I've done, and a ton of "actor mail." I love Christina. She's my Velveeta Jr.

1:08pm: So I've found a stack of checks we forgot about last week (yes, we are that flippin' busy) and that means Keith gets to take a walk to the bank and do a little deposit action. Yay, residuals! We're very happy that CSI: Miami is the most watched show, internationally. That recurring gig from a few years ago is really paying Keith well. In honor of Caruso, he's sporting the shades and the 'tude. (Cue the music: "YEAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" That's for you, LDW.)

2:10pm: Christina is still at it. Merging newly-acquired headshots into the master file of "actors who rock." (Those are the ones coded YELLOW. There are two other categories. Plus the trash, natch.)

2:49pm: Thwok is hunting. When isn't she? Oh, I know. When she's sleeping. ;)

3:12pm: Paying bills. Again. Seriously, can we pay someone to do this for us?

4:03pm: Not to be outdone, Archie chirps and gets some camera time. Do you just LOVE those freckles? I sure do!

4:55pm: So grateful to Eitan for having introduced us to Gloria's. Holy crap, their papusas are a thing of beauty. And their sangria ain't too shabby neither, baby!

6:24pm: Keith and Joanie are wrapping up the production meeting. Yes, this looks very much like last month's 12 of 12. Both 12s were on a Thursday and our Thursdays are pretty consistent lately. Meetings. Gloria's. Meeting at Gloria's. Class Rules! :) Awesome!

7:01pm: No clue what this light fixture is supposed to do, but I'm told it creates really cool shapes on the wall outside, through the window across the stairwell. Huh. Okay then.

10:33pm: Keith and Erich are--as usual--enchanted by another of Konstantin's wonderful stories. There were accents. And Keith played a role in some sort of improvised scene. I think Keith and Konstantin may have been brothers in a past life. Erich really enjoys this part of the night. ;) I do too!

11:46pm: Class Rules! is over for this week. Eesh, we went late. I'm bushed, but luckily both my iPhone and I have enough juice left to take one last 12 of 12 pic before heading home.

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) ¡Muchos besos!

Feb09 12 of 12

Hello and welcome back to 12 of 12. New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Join us! It's ever so much fun.

12:26am: Starting off my 12 of 12 the way I spend so many hours: checking name actors' Ulmer Score rankings for producer casting grids. The way we determine which offers to make first often comes down to actor bankability (distribution, overseas sales, Netflixability, etc.).

7:16am: Ridiculously long day ahead, so I'm up after five hours and back to work. This photo is really a testament to how long I keep shit that's next to my bed. First, it's worth noting that the clock radio has been used neither as an alarm nor a radio since the late '90s. I've had a handheld device living by the bed since I got my first Palm Pilot in early 2000. Anyway, that clock radio was a gift for opening a bank account at Fulton Federal in Athens, GA, back in 1990. The little pot of lipgloss (peppermint flavored) is from Bath & Body Works in Athens, GA, purchased at Christmas season, 1995. The floweredy nail file was purchased in Sherman Oaks, CA, in 1999. And Lovingly, Georgia (one of my very favorite books) was purchased at the Oxford Bookstore in Atlanta on an outing with my lovely mother back in 1993. Seriously.

7:50am: The cute fuzzy socks I put on when it's 43 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, Hello Kitty. Just like the Hello Kitty blanket I keep draped under my desk. Geek!

10:39am: Have I mentioned how happy I am that Rice Chex is now gluten-free? Scheduling actors' auditions for the 2009 Cricket Feet Showcase on the spreadsheets below breakfast.

1:08pm: I've just spent the past 95 minutes in a meeting with producers on Glass Houses, the $5M feature film I'm casting. As the meeting wraps up, producer/actor Jennifer Fontaine and writer/director Mark Bernier cozy up at the Coffee Bean.

1:47pm: Back home for a bit more desk work before heading out to another meeting. Countersigning a release for a comedic scene submission for the Cricket Feet Showcase. Can't wait to read the scene!

3:01pm: Finishing a freelance article for SAG Actor Magazine (about the top three biggest mistakes actors make on their resumés) before sprinting out for the second producer meeting of the day.

3:46pm: Waiting for my lovely hubby to come back to the car after mailing books at the post office. These are my fancy pants accented perfectly by my old beat-up boots. Yes, I have cute new boots too, but there was going to be too much walking today for the heels. :) I opted for comfort.

4:56pm: Producer meeting #2 at a favorite restaurant. Yay! Lovely Joanie Fox (writer/producer) and I are going over plans for Arranging Mia (the $2M feature film I'm casting) as well as a web series we're developing together. So much fun! And Gloria's is a great place for meetings. :) Love it!

7:09pm: Class Rules! gathers. In this cute pic, Katie Swain, Lauren Dobbins Webb, Kathi Carey, and Lori Gundershaug. Let's get started!

8:44pm: More Class Rules! awesomeosity! Featured here, we have Keith Johnson, Erich Lane, Amelia Borella, and Jay Ruggieri. Yay!

9:21pm: Class Rules! February 2009 edition. :) This is the first time we've done a class pic. :) Hee! Left to right: Meline Tovmasian, Kathi Carey, Helenna Santos, Lauren Dobbins Webb, Joanie Fox, Katie Swain, Oren Rehany, Bonnie Gillespie (that's me!), Jay Ruggieri, Erich Lane, Amelia Borella, Lori Gungershaug, Julie Weidmann, Tanya Perez, Amro Salama. (Not pictured: Cristina Cimellaro, Dane Nielsen, Konstantin Lavysh, Angelina Hong, Melanie Merkosky, Keith Johnson.) Don't you LOVE the puce wall color? The bottom half of the wall is eggplant. So lovely! What's truly lovely is this class. I adore these actors. So smart, so talented, so damn fun to spend time with each week. :) Yay! Class Rules! :)

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, Chad, for another lovely 12 of 12 experience. :) Kisses!

January 12, 2009

12 of 12 for January 2009

Welcome back for another year of 12 of 12! New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info. Join us! It's so fun.

7:20am: Went to sleep just before 2am after a lovely Santa Ana-induced walk with the hubs. While we were out, everything STOPPED--no sound whatsoever--and then there was stillness and a crack in a tree above. We stopped and just stared, commenting on how, strangely, no cars were parked on that side of the street (that never happens, at that hour), and then I said the words, "It's like something's about to happen." (I was thinking earthquake.) And then... POP! That whole branch of the tree just snapped right off and slammed to the ground. Had there been cars parked there, there would have been insurance claims. It was bizarre! Like when Keith walks by a street light and it just turns off. Happens all the time! Anyway, got a big five hours' sleep after that and woke up to kitties and Keith sleeping away. Me? Up. Gotta get up. Can't stay in bed at this point.

8:10am: Customizing today's Jillian Michaels workout on the Wii Fit. I love this thing. The "hard" workout is HARD. I know. Shocking! I'm lovin' it, though. And I'm so happy I've learned how to opt out of the country music and pick my own routine. Really great! Loads of sweat. Happy! Downloaded the "Lose It" app for iPhone as recommended by Ames and am already obsessed. I will be at goal before my b'day!

9:38am: See anything you like? All these VHS tapes are headed to donation bins! Yep. I had hoped that Keith could take 'em to his used video store and get a credit of a few bucks from 'em. Nope. NOTHING. They're worthless. Damn. That hurts. But we made sure all of the really "important" vids here were downloadable and/or buyable somewhere. Yay! Clear the clutter! What's next??

9:57am: "Breakfast" at my desk: butternut squash soup w/ lots of pepper! Yum! I know it's not a standard breakfast, but it's way creamy and filling and it's the only time of day--what with the Santa Anas and all--that I can enjoy anything remotely warm.

10:28am: Paying bills. Didn't I do this last month? Seriously. This is not fun. I mean, I love that we have the money to pay for the things that we have, but the hassle of filling out documentation on the Income Contingent Plan for my dang student loans for the sixth time in a year is just crazymaking! "Yes! This is my documented income! YES! It's radically different every two months! YES! That's what living freelance is all about!" DUDE!

11:44am: So, my lovely cousin Faith has furniture in LA that needs to live here, while she lives in NY. And we have a lovely storage space in Pacoima (I guess it's lovely; I've never been. Keith carries the heavy stuff), so we help her out sometimes. This is the most recent U-Haul Keith rented to schlep stuff to storage. Cousin's dining room table and chairs, plus two boxes that were recovered from my mother's house after it burned down a few years ago. I can't open them. I'm just not ready. So, off to storage they go, to be with the boxes Keith shipped home from my actual cousin's house in 2007, also unopened. Someday, we'll have a house and all of this stuff will live in a garage there. And then we'll die and Quinn and his wife and kids will sort through the boxes we haven't opened, ever. It'll be like a time capsule! Or, we'll get our house and hire "people" and have a week or so to go through everything and... yeah, I know. It's a fantasy. But at least I'm not alone in believing that we'll someday go through "the boxes." Right? Everyone has this stuff, yeah?

12:20pm:Well, Keith was on his way to the storage space when he got a call from his rockstar agent, and learned he had to rush home to change for a callback! Awesome problem to have! :) So, as he stopped home, he grabbed the mail and opened our 2009 Shiba Inu Cam calendar. Yes, really. We didn't have a 2009 calendar and saw we could buy one from the Shibas. And we did. And it's presh. Shut up.

1:20pm: Lunch! Yes, it's just been a couple of hours since the soup, but considering the workout, I'd say it's time. What's for lunch? Pork Papaya and mixed veggies. Yum!

1:41pm: Thwok begs for (and receives) broccoli. Seriously, this cat is weird. Oh, but good news comes at this point. I've been tapped for a book signing and Q&A at Samuel French in Studio City on February 2nd! Woo! Wine, food, Bon! You gotta be there! :)

2:21pm: I hear sirens and have to check out the window. Yup. It's the fourth time in this very young year that the paramedics have been here. Poor Bob. Our neighbor is really having trouble lately. It won't be long. :(

4:22pm: Santa Anas require a DayQuilTini. The lovely DayQuilTini is posing on a lovely new table from cousin Faith. Ahh... somehow this cuts the pressure from the Santa Anas. A little. Wish it helped more. Ugh. The Santa Anas are sooo rough on my sinuses...

6:27pm: ...and skin. The Santa Anas are so bad that my moisturizer needs moisturizer! Luckily, the amazing Nancy Wolfson bought me some sweet Sephora goodies, and this was one of the lovely things. Hope in a Jar is seriously like butter on my skin. Thank goodness!

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, sweet Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss! Be well!

12 of 12 for Dec08

Welcome to the last 12 of 12 for the year! New to 12 of 12? Visit Henry-free (and cancer-free) Chad Darnell for all the info. (Love you, Chad! Keep kickin' cancer's ass!)

10:06am: So, my last "get the eff up" iPhone chime of the morning goes off at 9:45am. This is me showing said iPhone (Nancy) what I think of her, by using her to take the first of the day's 12 of 12 (and then spending the next half-hour checking email to be sure I don't actually have to get to my desk right away).

10:37am: So, I've checked enough email to kind of wake up, but I ask Keith to come back to bed and kiss on me a bit. He does (and with Keith travels Archie, pretty much always). The bed is warm and awesome. And soon the boys are sleeping and I'm up and at my desk to start my day.

11:45am: Watching Airline (Am I the only one who loves this show?) while Thwok perches and supervises the beginning of my work. I must dive into the headshots awesome intern sorted yesterday and get rid of like half of that big stack. That's the SHORT-term goal.

12:31pm: I've brought another stack of headshots onto the sofa for sorting (more on this in Monday's column) and Thwok helps by chewing the corners of the actors whose headshots make her the most happy. Or horny. Or something. Hard to tell. She's a cat.

2:58pm: Keith is up from his nap and out the door to a Chevy audition. That's part of the active casting wall behind him. There's more further behind him, as this particular portion of the wall is in use for a prequel/sequel we're casting (two films, duh) and we have to space out the "worlds" so we don't get confused as the LOIs come in. Woo!

3:31pm: Ah... Word Twist on the Facebook. Oh, how I love it. I missed one word this round. LIED. LOL Okay, last round (for now), then back to headshot purging!

5:07pm: Do actors feel it when their headshots bite the dust? This is bin three on day four of The 2008 Headshot Purge. (More on this at a recent video on my Facebook page. It's really not personal!)

6:52pm: Okay, so I was invited to two (actually, three, but I know that third one, no one expected me to attend, but it was sweet for 'em to ask, of course) parties tonight and the way I handled the conflict over which to attend was... go to neither! Classic punk-out option. Awesome. Ever-helpful Thwok approves of this decision.

7:19pm: Just before the lottery and we're so totally gonna win $207M tonight! Yeah! Somebody's Basement, here we come, bitches!

8:11pm: Bah! Our lottery ticket is now a paperball toy for kitties. Dammit!

9:29pm: Keith is reading another script sent over for a casting bid (YAY!) while Salema sleeps nearby. I'm so loving this "dead season." Rockin' my socks off, all the indie film casting gigs comin' through here!! (Whether I take 'em on or not, I LOVE that they're happening!!)

9:49pm: Gotta fire off one last photo for 12 of 12. It's Archie! Yay! The people love the animals! :)

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by. And thank you, sweet Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss! Be well!

November 12, 2008

12 of 12 for November 2008

I loved, loved, loved today's 12 of 12!! New to 12 of 12? Visit birthday boy Chad Darnell for all the info. ;)

12:12am: Just before heading to bed (although I wouldn't sleep for another hour or so... lots of talking in bed with the hubby), I'm finishing off an email to a wonderful Prague-based casting director named Nancy Bishop. She had a few states-based-casting questions and I finally had a moment to fire off a few (hopefully helpful) answers.

9:23am: Ahh, I really could've stayed in bed all day. Got a whole 7.5 hours' sleep, which is weird for me, but I enjoyed it! After a bit of iPhone-in-bed action, I left a sleeping Keith (SHOCK! He's usually up with the sun) and started my day with a hot shower.

10:02am: Checking my progress over the past few months on the Wii Fit. Yup. Those dots are my weight tracking... down, down, down. :) I love getting to see the chart over time like that. Really puts the "blips" into perspective! Losing a pound a week for a year is a pretty dang cool thing.

11:49am: The dark blue electric throw (a 1993 gift from Daddy) is one I cuddle up with when it's cold. The light blue fleece robe (a 1998 gift from big brother Bill) is one I wear when it's cold. And the silver monkey (a 2004 adoption from casting sis Deb) LOVES both of these warm things. And my thigh. Which is also probably warm.

1:55pm: After finalizing a casting breakdown that will go out tomorrow, I finally got around to updating the showcase website with this edition's winners and industry supporters. Upload, upload, upload!

3:50pm: Time for a 150-calorie snack! Two wedges of Laughing Cow Cheese (it so makes me smile) and some gluten-free rice crisps. And, of course, water. Frozen water. ;) By Coca-Cola, of course.

5:47pm: Sad hands. Well, just one. I have this ridiculous split fingernail (split the "long way") that keeps coming back unless I baby it like crazy. Rather than getting it snagged on everything and risking real pain, I'm wrapping it in a Hello Kitty band-aid for the night.

6:10pm: I am very skilled at Vehicular Makeup Artistry. It's seriously one of my special skills! (No worries, Keith is driving. This is one of our many rituals: Get Bon to a speaking engagement while she primps. He loves it.)

8:01pm: We've arrived at the panel venue after a wonderful dinner at Marie Callender's with the AFTRA panel organizers and our moderator and fellow panelists. I've introduced Gabrielle Carteris to the wonders of the vodka gimlet and we've exchanged email addresses. I am in 90210 fangirl heaven!

8:13pm: You'd think we're chatting about topics of discussion for the panel. Nope! Gabrielle just has to know where I bought my fancy pants and I'm, of course, not only telling her where but how much they cost. (Such a good southern girl!)

8:24pm: Our casting panel at AFTRA. (L-R) Carolyn Hennesy, Bonnie Gillespie (duh, me), Patrick Baca, Wendy O'Brien, Paul Weber, and moderator Gabrielle Carteris. I am honored to have been asked to be a part of this panel. I'm the "baby" of the bunch, for sure, but I had fun and shared some "cutting edge tips" for the technology lovers in the room.

9:34pm: My NBF Carolyn and I are swapping contact info and tips on the hottest spas no one knows about, both near and far. She's totally hooking me up with a great local day spa and of course I'm hooking her up with Hacienda Hot Springs Inn.

Great day! Great night! Got lots of work done on showcase business and prepping for the casting that rolls out in the morning. Did manage to deliver/mail a few copies of Self-Management for Actors out, but the bulk of that will happen tomorrow and Friday. Phew! It's been a busy month already. Love it!!

Thanks, Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss!

12 of 12 for Oct2008

It's the "nonaversary" edition of 12 of 12 for 2008. (More about our nonaversary in my next blog post, I promise!) Pretty boring, as my 12's go, but here it is just the same. ;)

New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.

8:55am: Horrendous night of Santa Ana winds (which I love, in theory), nose bleeds, heartburn, and panic attacks. Bleh. This is why I'd prefer not to sleep, frankly. So, as the morning wore on, Archie approached saying that he would like to know why I'm still in bed. "Leave me alone, dude. Rough night."

11:39am: Keith's home from an audition and says it's time for more NyQuil. This actually helps with the Santa Ana nosebleeds, believe it or not.

1:49pm: It's chillycold, so I'm gonna put on these new supercute booties Sheila Daly knitted for me. So cute, right? :)

1:54pm: She assures me they will stretch to fit, but I'm not so convinced. Now that I'm holding them up, you can see how itty-bitty they are, yeah? But still so cute!

1:58pm: Well lookie there! They do fit! Now I'm cozy *and* stylin'! Thanks, Sheila! Hee!

3:39pm: Finally got my appetite back (it's amazing how a night of heartburn and nosebleeds makes you less than hungry the next day) and YUMMY! It's mahi mahi time! Yay! So good! (Of course, the plantains are my favorite part!)

4:22pm: Thwok enjoying the last bit of sun on the floor in the dining room today. Toy mouse nearby. "What?" she asks. Like she didn't just have it in her mouth, between her paws, killing it!

5:49pm: Gotta deal with some mail... or am I avoiding writing my columns? It's just... so much mail!

6:51pm: One last check of the Facebook to promise I'm off 'til the columns are turned in! It's true! :) I just want to ask folks to tell me which are the "top schools" (BFA, MFA, conservatory, whatever) for professional actor training. (Please share your thoughts in comments, below! Thanks.)

7:51pm: This is like my 12th bottle of water today. It is sooo dry! (That's Archie in background.) My skin is dry too. And lips too. Santa Anas, you're crazy!

10:05pm: Husband. Leather chair, three computers, TiVo remote. Happy. (Aren't they cute like that? So easy to please.)

10:32pm: Time for a shower. Yes, I have a weird bruise on my arm. Yes, we need to re-caulk the tub. (And the shower did not leave me wet for more than a second when I got out. That's how NOT humid it is, here.

Thanks, Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss!

September 12, 2008

12 of 12 for Sept08

I think I've found a great way to continue doing 12 of 12s (because I was thinking about being done). TwitPic + iPhone = cutting out about three of the most inefficient steps in the 12 of 12 process. (That'd be taking too many photos and weeding down to the right 12, cropping and thumbnailing the 12, and remembering the clever captions for those 12 long after I've taken way too many dang photos anyway.)

So, awesome! Lemmeknow if this works for y'all. ;) I'm feelin' pretty brilliant and definitely more eager to continue the 12 of 12 now that I've saved myself a bunch o' hours! New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.

12:07pm: I think I've decided to do 12 of 12 via TwitPic. I've been lazy in bed for hours, enjoying the grey day. Salema supports the stay in bed all day plan.

1:11pm: I am the girl of a hundred lists! Confirming tomorrow's Obama spec ad auditions first. Then on to showcase business and sending gifts to proofers.

3:13pm: Taking my daily dose of Perfect Food Super Green Formula. I love this stuff. It's especially great with cold leftovers. Yum!

4:27pm: Countersigning a Cricket Feet Showcase writer's release. Submission deadline in a half-hour! :)

6:01pm: On our walk. Our next door neighbor's succulents always make me think of Courtney and Renee, two friends from totally different times in my life who always remind me of one another.

6:13pm: Headed north of Montana to look at houses again. Our ritual! Real estate shopping! :)

6:24pm: Pretty house on 11th and Alta. Hummingbirds divebombing all over the place. I so love where we live!

6:34pm: Still on Alta. LOVE the glasswork in this door! Stunning! And their front yard is made for sipping cocktails and reading scripts! It's like a back yard with a patio and loads of grassy goodness.

6:46pm: Fresh cement and a recent walk-thru by a puppy dog outside 601 15th St. (which is a stunning compound with a gorgeous water garden in front). Hee! So cute, those puppy prints!

7:02pm: 616 19th St. It's not for sale, but maybe if we asked nicely. ;) Just met a real estate agent walking her dog. This area is pricey! But sooo pretty! She was on caravan through one of the houses we were looking at and recalled it to be $3.9M or $4.2M. Signs up EVERYWHERE for open houses Sunday. EVERYWHERE.

7:17pm: Keith's next car. Ittybitty!! My next car, however, will be a big 'un. ;) Hoping the FX-45 goes hybrid soon. :)

8:05pm: Home after an incredible two-hour walk ready to dive into a scrumptious Subway salad and then the longest shower of my life. Ahhhh... (And yes, it was a long shower and I actually "ahhhhhhh"ed several times during it. Now for a bit more work and then it's bedtime. Long day tomorrow. Very exciting!)

Thanks, Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. :) Kiss, kiss!

August 13, 2008

12 of 12 for August 2008

Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.

7:21am: I'm still trying to shake off the horrific dream I had. I woke up in screams at 2am, just desperate and terrified. Horrible, indescribable dream. Spent HOURS troubled by this dream. Bleh.

9:04am: Working out with my trainer on Wii Fit boxing. Archie is not my trainer. He's my lump of encouragement.

9:58am: A kiss goodbye from Keith as he heads out to run a few errands and read a script I've been sent (a Nicholls finalist!) to possibly cast.

10:15am: My computer clock says 10:14am. Camera clock says 10:16am. We'll split the difference and call it quarter-past. ;) Twitter. I love this place.

10:56am: More edits on SMFA (3rd edition), which appears to be about 424 pages now. I think we'll go with that, rather than trying to get down to the original goal of 368 by printer deadline.

2:01pm: I've turned three chapters over to my proofers and am starting in on one more to get even farther ahead for the day. Archie is a very big help. (The huge stack of papers at the far end of the sofa = feedback from proofers. They rule.)

4:41pm: Uploading the fourth and final chapter of the day to the proofer patrol and updating the proofer assignment list to reflect what's in their hands (green) and what they've gotten back to me (purple).

5:22pm: Julie is on her way, so it's time to put on a little makeup, makeup. ;)

6:15pm: Ahh... there's my girl Rachael and a bucket of happy. Yeah!

6:48pm: Huge benefit to being regulars. We get told about "off-menu items" that aren't even the special of the day... but they'll make 'em. Julie and I both got the Santa Barbara Enchiladas (chicken and shrimp). Sooooooo good.

7:58pm: When Julie refused to let me pay even a little bit, she said it was b/c this was my birthday celebration (a month and a day late--but I'll take b'day celebrations ANYTIME). So, that means I need a birthday card. This is the card. ;) Julie even sang! I love that girl.

8:46pm: What night would be complete without a bottle of champagne and a fiercely competitive few hours of Wii? That Julie is FOR REAL!

It remains a good life, here. Hope yours is too. :)

Thanks, Chad, for another wonderful 12 of 12 experience. Always good fun!! :) Kiss, kiss!

July 12, 2008

12 of 12 for July 2008, baby!

Hello! :)

I'm now 38! Yay! And here's my first 12 of 12 of my "new year." Hope you'll enjoy the very at-home-getting-work-done-enjoying-kitties-computers-and-Keith kind of day I had. I sure did! (Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.)

12:07am: My wonderful Papa Bear is always so thoughtful with the birthday goodies! He sent me a box of Blue Ridge apple yummies (including loads of apple butters, jellies, jams, honeys, and candies, plus two things--these fried apple pies and an apple muffin mix in an adorable apple pouch--that I can't eat but will happily give away to a fellow southerner who can endure the gluten and will LOVE these goodies like I love my Papa Bear. SO MUCH)!

2:33am: Keith is sleeping and I'm trying to do the same, but I'm obsessed with all the ways in which my 2.0 upgrade to the iPhone (Nancy) doesn't work. Luckily, one new app works just great. MOO! OMG, I have no idea why I'm so obsessed with this thing but I am. It's ridiculous. I blame you, Patrick Carlyle!!

8:03am: Keith has run out to bring up leftover showcase stuffs from his car and I'm being lazy and 38 in bed. Salema comes over to greet me and decides she is a whore for my fingernail, if I'll place it just so for her gum-and-teeth-grazing pleasure. This is a part of this cat's personality that no one ever really sees. Whore!

9:57am: After my shower, I start a huge part of my day. I've decided that I am *over* having 25GB of CRAP on my 'puter and that perhaps Sid will work faster if I just unburden him of some of the stuff that's backed up on an external drive. Eff it! I know where to get it if I need it, right? So, I spend HOURS doing one final backup, deleting GIGS of stuffs, and then repairing permissions and starting over with my new, peppier 'puter. (Still without iPhone syncing well on 2.0, mind you. One thing at a time.)

10:25am: Since my computer is not available to help me do showcase paperwork, I catch up on paying bills. We now have a "money guy" who is advising us to do things like use multiple accounts in order to be ready to buy a house within the next couple of years. Note how long it's been since I've used my cute "personal" checks by the date of the calendar on the check register. Hee!

2:34pm: These are the leftover industry kits from the showcase. Half of these will go out to folks who RSVP'd but couldn't make it for whatever reason and the other half will be disassembled and redistributed to the actors who want their headshots back. It ain't over yet, folks!!

4:10pm: I realized I was CRAVING beef like nobody's business and my lovely husband went to Father's Office to get me the best burger on the planet and some sweet potato fries with garlic dipping sauce. Add in the Ferrari Carano three showcasers gave me and I am in heaven.

4:28pm: But wait! Thwok Kittie (AKA Silver Monkey) has been nudging around. I'm *sure* she's craving meat too! She wants some of the burger. We try that. Nope! No good. No interest. Hmm. She's still hunting. What could she want? Not the fries. Well... what is it? YUP! That bitch wants the LETTUCE on the burger. She loves the beef-flavored baby greens and is begging for them so much that she leaps up and nabs bits right out of my fingers! Good kitty!!!

5:52pm: Not to be outdone, there is the gorgeous Archie Kitty. I swear, he is ready for America's Next Cat Model with this shot!

6:53pm: I am so in love with the gift the cast of the super-awesome showcase gave me! Sooooooo in love! Such a badass director's chair!! (I've said, each time, that I love love LOVE my casts... but I seriously think this has been my FAVORITE CAST thus far--and I've never said that before, so that should tell you how crazy I am about these kids. They're AMAZING people!!!!!!!!!)

8:25pm: Keith is reviewing the ballots with industry feedback and votes from this week's showcase performances and I'm in the process of typing it all up to provide to each actor who participated in the showcase. Getting feedback from industry is one of the COOLEST parts of the showcase. The actors crave knowing what the pros think! Of course, I share my feedback too. ;) (And I'm such a fan of all these actors, or I wouldn't have cast 'em in the first place, right?)

9:02pm: So, Keith and I are having our standard Saturday date night. COPS and America's Most Wanted, a little booze and some frisky action. ;) So, you'll excuse me as I cut this short and head to the other room. ;) Hee!

It's a good life, here. Hope yours is too. :)

June 12, 2008

June's 12 of 12

Well, all right! My favorite day of the year (Quinn's arrival) corresponded with 12 of 12 this month! Woo! (Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.)

9:25am: Good morning, Salema!

9:29am: Well, hello, Archie. On me. As usual.

2:42pm: Wow! That's a big jump in time. Uh... I was cleaning and packing up boxes of old scripts and casting bids on projects I ended up not casting and loads and loads of submissions and source material on archived columns and of course the raw goods for the third edition of Self-Management for Actors to be totally ready for Quinn's visit... and I got a very deep bruise inside my finger. Ow. (Yes, that's 90210 on in the background. Duh.)

3:56pm: Yay! They're here! Quinn and Keith roll up in the TicTac, top down and all. Yay!!!! Let the fun begin!!

4:02pm: This is our receipt for Quinn. You know... in case we need to return him. ;)

4:28pm: Quinn very quickly settles into Keith's new computer (Reggie) and its awesome, badass computer games.

6:34pm: The boys have headed off to the market to buy supplies for Quinn's half-birthday celebration tonight and that means there's a chance for skittish Thwok Kitty to investigate the fort they built for Quinn before they headed out on their walk.

6:35pm: BONUS PIC! The bonus pic this month (as I say... since there really isn't an official one) is "update." And the update is on the status of my bruise. Ow. Still. Ow.

7:02pm: Quinn and Keith return from the market equipped with cake mix, eggs, and ice cream. Oh, boy!! It's gonna get fun here, shortly.

7:46pm: Got word from the director that they've had to recast a role in Another Harvest Moon (which starts shooting Sunday! Eep!!), so I've got to do a quick update to the casting page, since IMDB monitors it to announce attachments.

8:03pm: Unfortunately, I am not happy with my TiVo right now. It skipped The Mole on Monday and I'm having to watch a recap that the awesome Ellen sent me to, so I can catch up. Grr. (But thank goodness I have that option, right?)

8:12pm: Ooh, look at that icing for Quinn's half-birthday cake! Looks AWESOME. (Of course, I'll have none of it, due to that whole gluten thing, but *man* that cake is smelling really good in the oven right about now. Dayum!)

8:20pm: Convinced Thwok (and Archie and Salema) to come out and play with some catnip while the boys eat half-cake and we sing a half-song and give a half-wrapped half-present and a half-card to Quinn, celebrating that he's now closer to 10 than to nine years old. :) Awesome.

And now my boys are sleeping. And I'm working. All is right with the world. :)

May 12, 2008

12 of 12 for May 2008

Here's this month's "all-desk" edition of 12 of 12. (Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.)

12:18am: Kitties on Catalina. They actually don't mind each other sometimes. That always deserves a snapshot. (Oh, and that hole in the sofa? That's where my ass is planted... showing you the kitties really like hovering.) Took this shot and headed to bed!

8:22am: Got up before 7am and fielded emails from actors regarding the YouTube.com audition requests for Another Harvest Moon local hires, counter-signed a writer's release for a showcase scene submission, moderated a few posts at Hollywood Happy Hour, and prepped sides to fax to Showfax.

9:33am: Little Miss Sassypants (Thwok) is celebrating her fourth birthday tomorrow, and is very extra princess-like today. By now, I have walked a producer through obtaining a SAG Guarantee of Completion Contract for her indie film, made contingent compensation and producer credit adjustments to the casting deal memo for my next casting gig, dealt with a showcase meeting schedule snafu, and put out an offer to a pretty heavy-hitting (and legendarily diva-like) "name" actor on another film.

10:32am: Short list of namey actors the director would like to meet for one of these films. Time to make calls out to the agents and managers of the top three and get 'em all set for some coffee dates. The rest will wait in the on-deck circle.

11:39am: Here comes the marked-up casting deal memo for the next film I'm casting. I'll enter all of these changes and send over a revised and signed document--via Keith--for counter-signature and then we're go for takeoff!

12:58pm: Ah, now it's time for the typical 1pm to 3pm lunch break at most agencies (the only time of day my phone and email inbox at the casting account are both quiet). So, I'll take a break and read Rich's recap on ANTM and the badass final three (GO WHITNEY!!!!). I'm not totally on a break, though, as I'm crafting an email to a director to ask whether he wants to Taft-Hartley someone on a supporting role and if the top-choice actor in another role who is in Paris right now should find a way to put herself on tape before she gets back to the states.

2:32pm: Working up the breakdown for The Mikado Project while uploading first audition footage for Another Harvest Moon. Of course, 90210 is on in the background. So, it's still *kind of* a break. Okay, okay. It's not. I know.

2:50pm: NOW a proper lunch break. Yum! Chicken Italiano with veggies and three-bean salad. Delish! This is like the only time when I won't stop a break to answer the phone. I'm trying to get much more focused about my eating time. Allegedly, mindful eating is better for a person. We'll see. ;)

5:46pm: Still working on the breakdown for The Mikado Project. This is taking awhile and we don't have a lot of time on this one.

7:26pm: I'm starting to get sleepy enough that I know I need to upload my 12 of 12 soon. And I have far too photos! So, it's time to snap the kitties. Everyone loves kitty pics, right? ;) There's Archie.

7:26pm: And Salema. (Doesn't she look like a porcupine??)

7:33pm: Okay, time to prep my blueberries and instant oatmeal. Does anyone else love breakfast for dinner as much as I do? It just rocks! Contemplating a nap and then a midnight gym visit. WE'LL SEE!

Hope you enjoyed this edition of 12 of 12! It's nice having this intersect with The Experiment! :) And, hey, next month's 12 of 12 is the day Quinn arrives for his annual visit! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! :)

April 14, 2008

Very late April 2008 12 of 12

All day on the 12th, I kept thinking--as I snapped photos that all looked the same to me--"Ah, this would've been such a cooler 12 of 12 if tomorrow were the 12th instead." You see, I had big plans for the 13th: an awards show, Universal City with the kids after, and a rockstar karaoke birthday party in Little Tokyo for my new badass director friend.

But then the weather changed. And I'm a weather wimp. Because I had so much work to do all day Saturday, in order to be able to be gone all day Sunday (my usual column-writing and catch up on everything else day), I stuck myself in front of my computer in a very hot room and neglected to eat much or drink any water, really, and by the time Keith got home from rehearsal, apparently I looked like death warmed over.

"Get into the bedroom," he bossed. I did, and he set up the AC, fed me NyQuil, and put me on migraine watch. My tummy flipped over many, many times and my head got all swimmy like in those anvil-to-head cartoons. I started shaking and got the dry heaves. It was way fun. (No, really. It actually was not. Not at all. Not fun.)

So, in addition to a very boring 12 of 12, it's a very late 12 of 12 because I spent the next 40 hours in bed, trying not to throw up, with wet washcloths draped over me and tissues filled from the nosebleeds all over the bedside table. Delightful.

I still feel like shit, but at least the weather has changed back. I'm sorry, but a sudden weekend high of 96 degrees with so much pressure in the air that it's like I've been placed atop a mountain with no ramp-up to it for my body to adjust is just NOT cool. My tummy is still so fluttery. I hate it. Bleh.

So, with that lovely little lead-in, I give you my boring-ass work-too-hard, forget-to-eat-or-drink, get-over-heated-and-dehydrated version of 12 of 12. (Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.)

9:03am: Starts out like any other Saturday. I check my emails from Nancy in bed before heading out to my desk. Put out as many fires from here as possible, to make the transition to "work mode" less clunky. (At least that's what I've convinced myself this ritual does.)

10:02am: A press release will be going out this week with some casting announcements on one of the films I'm casting right now, so I'm prepping the actors' headshots (no, they're not really "blurred"--that's just so's I'm not scooping the press release via 12 of 12, y'know) for the casting website and for posting up on my cubbies, where I always mount the active projects' casts. It's a nice way to stay focused on these awesome actors while dealing with minutia of deals and negotiations and hassles.

11:34am: It's still really early for me to be prepping the final cast grid (which I hand off to production after all deals are set), but there is so much ink on some of these casting deals that I want to stay ahead of the extras and perks and keep everything straight before it gets even more hectic than it has already been. Here, I'm looking up a manager's email address to enter into the grid.

1:41pm: There's been a date push of three weeks on this film, so I have to map out the new dates in the casting deals and on the final cast grid. Might as well be sure it's all accurate before sending out more offer letters. Note: At this point, I have a note in my photo log that says, "I wish I could get a photo of the spike to 88 degrees and PRESSURE that's just happened." Ah... if only it had stayed at only 88 degrees! (And if only I had stopped here to get some water or something. Idiot!)

3:42pm: Ah, a gluten-free muffin and some iced cocoa (Note: I do not generally like cocoa. It's high-protein diet cocoa that I'm supposed to drink. Bleh. See how the instant powder crap doesn't dissolve? EVER. It's annoying. Bleh.) while I outline this week's column and select a POV contribution for the 15th. I swear, I didn't feel so complainy while this was happening... it's only in the captioning (realizing how very sick I was making myself by working so much and ignoring my body's signals for so long) that I am pissy about it all.

4:42pm: Keith has called to ask me if I'm taking care of myself in this heat. "What?" I ask. And then I realize, "Oh, crap. I haven't even been drinking enough water" (and I usually drink a gallon a day) and I hop in the shower to cool off. This is the after-shower upside-down head-flip hair combing. That's the extent of my styling ritual. No product, no styling tools... I don't even own a hair dryer. For realz.

4:57pm: Convinced I've cooled myself off enough, I head back to my desk to work on showcase prep. Gotta get the tech/show bible completed; burn the CD of music for the pre-show, post-show, and show itself; log the RSVPs; and create the mic pack map among other things. This is the tower of booze we've bought for the showcase (admin showcase stuff in the boxes in the foreground). I hope we've got enough. This block of boxes is six columns deep. Eitan has the beer and water. We've got the wine and tequila.

5:11pm: Mic map, done! Let's hope this makes sense to anyone other than me!

5:17pm: I've posted the actors' headshots--again, blurred so as not to scoop the press release--and this makes me very happy. I really love this part of the process: Having actors cast in roles and preparing to bring fictional (and historic, in this case) characters to life! It's just awesome. And I know they're all so excited!

6:58pm: I'm getting punchy. Keith has come home and I'm frantic about getting the rest of my 12 photos in. I'm chattering like a rabid squirrel and Keith is trying to put a wet washcloth on my head. I'm fighting him on it, saying, "I'm FINE!" and then he makes me touch my skin just under my breasts. OH MY GOD! I am on fire! Suddenly, my tummy flips and it's off to bed I go. But first, of course, a photo (one of like 25 I took within like three minutes) of Archie.

7:30pm: Keith has put clean sheets on the bed and tossed Sid and Nancy and the Sex and the City box set (I'm trying to watch one DVD per weekend to try and get caught up before the movie comes out) in bed as bait for me to go follow. The AC is up and running, working really hard to try and bring the temperature down from the 92 it reached inside today. HOW did I miss this? My head is swimming. Ah! A nosebleed. Lovely.

8:48pm: Finally! I'm relaxing. And it's one of my favorite moments in Sex and the City history. I've even blogged about it (er, over three years ago), here.

In the whole "remember to stay grateful" line of thinking, I'm just so very happy that I have a husband who makes me take care of myself, a super-high-powered AC, and "good TV" (even if it's actually DVD on the 'puter rather than "traditional TV") to distract me while I'm mending from the stupid overwork, overheat, oversick nonsense. I really do love my lovely life. It's overfilled with good things. My problems are a piece of cake, considering.

(Sorry I missed the fun Sunday stuff, everyone. I hope the awards show was grand, the park was fun, and the birthday party was filled with happy celebration!)

March 12, 2008

12 of 12 for March 2008 (all iPhone edition)

Well, well, welly well well.

So, Keith starts talking big on Monday night about how he's gonna whisk me away for a spa mini-vaycay and I say, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah," knowing how much work I have to do and how far away our favorite spa joints are and how far in advance one must reserve such a thing as spa services and hotel stays in peak season.

Well.

I wake up Tuesday morning after a delightful "First Looks" of our showcase and Keith has already made reservations for my massage, his aloe wrap, my rosemary scalp treatment and reflexology, and his other massage at Hacienda Hot Springs. (Keith learned about this place while lamenting to a German filmmaker friend he made at Samuel French one day about this horrific "spa" experience we had last year in Santa Barbara. Seriously, we've become so spoiled by Copperwynd and La Costa that we thought there was just no hope for a nearby, affordable spa getaway... until she raved about this place and Keith followed up. Honestly, staying at Hacienda Hot Springs is like staying over at some friend's house. Only her house is split into six rooms and there's a pool, a hottub, a sauna, a firepit, a well, and a cool other friend who comes over to do massages while the host friend makes homemade granola and serves it up fresh and hot.)

So, okay, we're going. I spend the morning frantically doing as much work as I can and then packing up what will have to travel with me in case (HA!!! IN CASE!!!) there is more work to do, learning how to dial in and check our answering machine from the road, and then hitting that road in Keith's rental car (his car is in the shop... again).

Proud girl that I am, as we drive down the 10, I snap photos with my great little digital camera. I've packed extra batteries, extra memory cards, heck--the camera itself! This is going to be a perfect 12 of 12, right? (Don't know what 12 of 12 is? Visit Chad Darnell for all the info.) I'm snapping photos along the way, knowing I won't use them for 12 of 12, but have fun sharing them at some point. And then it hits me... I've left the camera's damn cable at home.

So, I even-more-proudly bring you this all iPhone edition of the 12 of 12. No choice. :) And these photos didn't turn out so bad, now, did they?

9:20am: Sun is streaming through the curtains on the door to our room. "Room" is not the right word. We have a little kitchen and everything. Sita tells us this is the last room she rents, as it doesn't have a patio, but when you call last-minute to an inn that only has SIX rooms, well, you take the last room. Happily.

9:25am: Hitting the shower before I start my day. Yes, I actually had a GREAT night's sleep here, in this strange place. Desert air, maybe? All of the swimming and massages from Tuesday? Being away with only a handful of people even knowing about it? Not sure. But I SLEPT. It was great.

10:27am: I've taken my breakfast out to the huge, handmade-on-site table in front of the café, and this is my view. I am in heaven.

10:53am: Shanti and Grace (and Witty, a black cat the size of Archie) lord over the place, making sure that everyone is fed and happy... and mostly naked.

10:58am: When Sita learns we checked in without a proper tour yesterday (oops... I was too excited to get my first massage and Keith was eager to hop in the pool), she immediately took us on one. I have LOTS of photos of that, but this one was a must-share for the 12 of 12, with those flowers looking like Christmas tree ornaments!

11:16am: It's almost time for my rosemary scalp treatment, massage, and reflexology (we just decided to rename it "two and a half hours of BLISS") and Sita is gathering more rosemary to take to Esther, who is creating the mix for my hair's conditioning treatment.

4:02pm: Well, you knew I was going to have to work eventually. Got out of the massages and learned that an actor in one of the films I'm casting needed an adjustment in shoot dates (next month) and that an actor to whom we'd made an offer on another of the films I'm casting had been given the script "with high recommendation" from his team... but we needed to get some more money on the table. Calls, emails, and more calls, while Keith gets his aloe wrap.

4:58pm: And now a break for dinner. I'm a member of the clean plate club, don'tcha know? (You would be too, if everything were this yummy!)

6:13pm: After another hour of work before close of business, I meet Keith (and Shanti) at the hottub for another soak. Mmmmmmmmm... bubbles. (And hummingbirds divebombing like crazy. I love it!)

6:31pm: Now it's time for a dip in the pool, because the hottub has gotten too hot and it's just totally time for laps (did an hour last night). I know, I know, this isn't the pool, but it is the rock pond next to the well (160 degree water, y'all) and it's just gorgeous.

6:31pm: Pool. Sunset. Firepit in the back of the yard--where we're headed after I post my 12 of 12. Can we live here?

6:58pm: Only 25 minutes of laps this time. It's chilly and windy tonight, compared to last. But you know what's great during cold winds? Sauna!!

7:20pm: Back to the room with the intention of posting 12 of 12 and then heading back out to the hot tub and firepit to read scripts and make some plans for next months breakdowns (yes, plural), but Keith gets a call from his agent with TWO auditions tomorrow. Son of bitch, if it ain't always the way. Leave town, book a national. Well, not yet, but one of 'em is a Home Depot callback and we just really love it when our spa vacations are cut short by really good reasons like these.

Hope you enjoyed my all iPhone 12 of 12. I sure as shit did! Yay! More spa mini-vaycays! Yay! :) Off to the hottub and such. See y'all back in LA in 12 hours.

February 12, 2008

12 of 12 for Feb08

Another "didn't leave the house" edition of 12 of 12 (but this one was due to WORK, baby, not the other thing).

(New to 12 of 12? Visit Mr. Chad Darnell for the details, rules, and links to all of the other 12 of 12ers out there participating. And leave comments. 12'ers love comments!)

12:08am: Updating the OS on Sid and reviewing my overnight "To Do" list. Includes work on Scratching the Surface, The Quest, Cricket Feet Showcase, two new films for 2008 and 2009 (see below), and Self-Management for Actors' 3rd edition. I'm exhausted just listing it all.

12:59am: Pass/consider time. We get some really amazing submissions of comedic scenes for the showcase. We have to decide what's best. So, there's a team of readers (need some new volunteers, actually) and we all score "pass/consider" for each scene and writer. Then we cast the show. ;)

1:35am: Up from a half-hour nap (yes, really) and back to work... but first... leftover sushi from Houston's. Yummmmmmmm. I seriously get four meals out of this thing... and could eat it every day. Delish!

3:09am: Thwok has decided to come help with my "To Do" list. She's very helpful that way. And pushy, for a ten-pound critter.

4:00am: I have a splitting headache that just came over me FAST. Cannot seem to shake it. Gonna try an Excedrin and a half (yes, that's my limit. I know. Wimp) and some pistachios. And water. Lots of water.

5:33am: Showcase scenes. See? Lots of 'em. I have now emailed all of the showcase auditioners who have answered their Cmail questionnaires (Q: What is WITH the huge number of actors who don't check Actors Access Cmail? Crazy!!!!), put Eitan's pass/considers into the grid, updated Ulmer Scale numbers on The Quest pitch spreadsheet, and analyzed the first breakdown and treatment on those above- and below-mentioned two upcoming films. Time to email a bid and get a nap before sun-up.

6:10am: Turning the page on the "Common Errors in English Usage" calendar. Who the hell would ever spell "holistic" "wholistic" anyway? (Some entries are better than others, I tell ya.) And NOW off to bed for a sleep cycle.

8:40am: Yup. That's how much email has come in, in 90 minutes while the world is sleeping. Up to make sure an actor got an email from me, canceling his meeting with the creative team behind The Quest (because if he didn't, I'm up and on the phone, now). Yup. He got it. Phew. Back to sleep.

10:32am: But not for long. The phone won't stop ringing. So, up I am. :) Pilot season is officially back on, and the agents are hopped up on caffeine and calling all of their favorite CDs about everything that had been back-burnered for a few months. Today four deal memos go out. Finally. :)

11:45am: I've never filled up a call log book this quickly. Keith just ordered six more online. Amazing what casting so much at once will do.

3:15pm: Thwok is hunting. She's certain she can get that bird that's nesting in the tree outside our window. Sometimes I believe her!

4:11pm: Archie sunbathing next to a stack of showcase materials I've recently pulled back out of storage. Yup. It's that time again! Auditions next week! :) Was that a "break"? Eesh! Good thing I love this thing! :)

6:18pm: Faxing sides to Showfax.com for producer sessions on the role of MICK in Scratching the Surface before close of business. Really looking forward to meeting these actors (no, appointments haven't gone out yet) and especially the producer and director on this film! The producer and I are already committed to work on his next two feature films together this year and next, so I can't wait to hug his neck! :)

7:48pm: Making the final list of actors to invite to those sessions. One round of name actor meetings, one round of chemistry reads with borderline namey actors, and one round of good ol' producer callbacks. Love it! That's a good day!

8:33pm: Fresh out of the shower and realizing that our medicine cabinet is about the largest space for "stuff" in a bathroom ever. I don't know if we can ever go back to regular-sized medicine cabinets. (Oh, and 95% of our medicine lives in the kitchen. I know. Weird.)

Yeah, I know, that was more than 12... but let's call it 12 of 12 plus bonus kitty photos. Everyone loves kitty photos! ;) Thanks for visiting!

PS--Ding dong, the strike is dead! :) Yay! I cannot change my "in support of the WGA" avatar fast enough! Phew! Congrats, writers. So glad you got a good deal!!

January 13, 2008

12 of 12 for January 2008

Yippee! Here's my first 12 of 12 for the year! (May this be the most boring 12'er of 'em all.)

(New to 12 of 12? Visit Mr. Chad Darnell for the details, rules, and links to all of the other 12 of 12ers out there participating. And leave comments. 12'ers love comments!)

12:03am: Thwok's favorite hiding place. She loves warm, clean laundry. But mostly she loves that no one can "get her" without climbing her tower.

12:40am: Too much technology. Watching my new boyfriend on TV, checking up on posts at HHH, charging up Nancy, and killing time "saving the world" on the BlackBerry I never named (which is now just a really expensive game of computer solitaire). Notes in the foreground on past and future contributors to The Actors Voice: POV.

1:37am: Laughing my ass off at a comment at Nikki's site about moguls' spec scripts failing because these people are born without an irony tendon.

2:02am: Stack of resumés and cover letters from the 92 applicants for the three director positions for the Cricket Feet Showcase. Wow. (Plastic bin behind the stack? Self-Management for Actors content. I'm sooo behind!)

9:23am: How most of my day looks. Kleenex and cough medicine. Ugh. Bleh. Over it.

10:27am: Archie wants to know why I haven't hauled my ass out of bed yet, seeing as I was asleep before 3am. "Too much sleeping, Bon. Get up."

12:53pm: Okay. Now I'm up. I'm working on my column. Slowly. And Thwok discovers her favorite thing: anything plastic she can chew on. Bag of Halls? Fair game for this chick.

12:54pm: See? She's in heaven.

12:56pm: The aftermath.

2:27pm: Watching auditions that actors have uploaded to the Cricket Feet Casting YouTube Group for Scratching the Surface. Cool.

8:49pm: Keith is scanning through the Scratching the Surface selects and enjoying some pot roast he made. He does like his crockpot, baby.

11:23pm: And I'm filling in Ulmer Scale numbers, AFM stats, and IMDB StarMeter rankings for our name actor grid so that producers and I can decide on best "first offers" to make for a half-dozen key roles, come Monday. VERY exciting!

So, there ya have it. My first 12 of 12 for the year. Hope you enjoyed it! :)

November 14, 2007

12 of 12 (finally) for November 2007

Okay, so I'm emotional, sick, and generally in a craptastic mood, but I wanted to put up my 12 of 12 (finally) for November 2007. So, here 'tis.

(New to 12 of 12? Visit birthday boy Chad Darnell--happy belated birthday, Chad--for the details, rules, and links to all of the other 12 of 12ers out there participating.)

2:06am: Enjoying a bit of Bailey's (gift from the cast) after turning in my most exhausting and emotional column.

2:07am: Look at the pretty roses from the showcase cast. I love these kids. So sweet.

3:11am: Badass Salema. She'd like me to go to sleep soon. Not likely.

4:11am: BONUS PIC! Y'know, I have no idea if there's even a bonus pic this month, but I've decided that there is one and the theme is STRIKE and this is the bonus photo, because I'm sitting here checking the many, many links in my most exhausting and emotional column about the strike...

4:14am: ...and finding more than a few typos in the URLs. Dammit. Is it exhaustion, emotion, eeee... what?

4:52am: Time to turn off the computer... but not the BlackBerry. Still gotta check my email. Good Lord, I have an addiction. (Oh, and I sooooo plan to have an iPhone soon. To go with the new 'puter soon. Plans, plans, plans.)

5:26am: Look at these gorgeous earrings from Crow-Fo', Fo-Show! I wish I wore earrings. I really do.

4:22pm: Oh, I've slept. Not as much as I'd like. And then I'm up and prepping industry kits for drop-offs (thank you, Keith) and answering emails about why I haven't replied about scripts I'm supposed to write up bids to cast. I'm seriously exhausted. Look at all this!

5:55pm: Dinnertime! It's a playdate with double-fisted AnnaVo! Yay! (Note: AnnaVo likes to pretend she's not my assistant. So let's keep that on the DL, okay?) (Note: AnnaVo isn't really my assistant. Really!)

8:14pm: Awesome El Cholo Rachael is LA's newest hand model! Yay! She's also a great photographer. Not sure how much longer we'll be able to visit her at El Cholo with all this cool stuff going on!!

8:22pm: This is one ambitious snail. (The joys of patio dining at El Cholo. Hee!)

8:23pm: Perspective. This thing climbed up from the knot at the bottom of this photo (left side of the column thingy) and into the mouth of the fountain during the span of our playdate. Rock on.

8:26pm: A final coat of lipgloss then it's time to head home. Anna and I hang out for another couple of hours there (holy crap, the stuff she's working on lately is SO DAMN OUTSTANDING... I'm just sayin'). Turns out the two of us were each in bed before midnight. That's what virgins we've turned into. Ha! (We can make up for that, come T'giving, right?)

Okay, so that's it for this month's 12 of 12. Sorry it's so blah (what I mean is, sorry I am so blah). I need a little reboot of energy and I'm counting on that coming up here in the next little bit. I'm just BEAT.

Love y'all!

September 12, 2007

12 of 12 for September 2007

Woo hoo! After a month off from 12 of 12, it's back! Right here at the BonBlogs! Woo! And then hoo!

12:31am: Don't bother them. They're eating.

2:20am: BONUS PIC (Today's bonus was "UNEXPECTED.") I think it's rather unexpected that I spent an hour trolling the Big Brother forums to read transcripts of live feeds in order to find out who won the first leg of the "Head of Household" competition. While watching TiVoed I Wanna Be a Soap Star. Good Lord, how low can you go, casting director? I'll just admit it. I do loves me some reality TV junk. (How long 'til ANTM is back?)

3:01am: Ready for this? THIS is exactly all of the remaining stock of Self-Management for Actors (other than the few hundred at our distributor's warehouse, which should be depleted via retailers within a few months). So... big decision was made today. SMFA, 3rd ed. coming your way by pilot season. Yes, this means I have to say no to casting a film. Booooooo! But, hey... it means... new book! Ready, Proofer Patrol?

7:10am: Up from a three-hour sleep and... yup... there's Archie. On me as usual. Good morning, Sunshine.

9:30am: After doing some email from bed, it's time for cuddling! Yay!

12:14pm: After the most recent actor contract comes through via fax, it's time to archive the second of two pilots I've cast in the past month. This has been sooooo gratifying!! Cast pages (in progress) are linked at the Cricket Feet Casting website.

12:36pm: Time for lunch! Amy's gluten-free chili. Yum!

1:51pm: Gotta check last night's lottery numbers. Damn. One of these days, I tell ya....

2:32pm: Time to work in the bedroom. It's where the A/C is hooked up. Much better.

2:44pm: The task was getting our 55 submitted comedic scenes for the Cricket Feet Showcase down to the 16 or 17 we'll use. I think I'm down to 30 at this point. Y'know... then I have to cast 'em. And do punch-up.

4:01pm: Still at it.

5:44pm: Loves me some Final Draft. I actually resurrected a scene I had written and then scrapped. We now are back up to 26 top scenes, after having gotten down to 25. Did I mention we need it down to 16 or 17? And we need 'em to all be kind of dissimilar in tone, style, relationship, and whatnot? Yeah. Busy.

11:11pm: All righty, Keith is now in bed. I've slept with him for about 20 minutes. Now I'm going to get up, shower, and get back to work in the living room, since it has cooled off nicely. Guess who joins me? Archie. Yes. He is my constant companion today, it seems.

News coming shortly about that big hush-hush venture I've been involved with (y'know, with The Hollywood Reporter, Breakdown Services, and superagent Marc Bass). It all goes live tomorrow. And no, this still isn't that BIG THING I'm keeping quiet. Another month still, 'til the disclosure on that. *giggle* Oh, and yes, I flaked on calling Mr. Superagent back last week. I was swamped that day and haven't had a second since then. But I am being interviewed by UTV of Ireland Friday for a documentary they're doing on "making it" in Hollywood. BBC Breakfast in Feb. 2007... now this? I'm sensing a trend. Hmm... 2008 book tour to the UK?

August 12, 2007

No August 12 of 12 here. :(

Sorry, gang. My first 12 of 12 skip for the year. Facing a major deadline. Cutting short just about everything else 'til I'm on the other side of this project. Disclosure to follow in a couple of months. I promise!

July 2007 12 of 12

Finally! My 12 of 12 for July is here!

What's 12 of 12? Well, visit the amazing Chad Darnell to find out!

12:03am: Look at these stunning orchids Faith sent me for my b'day! Wow!! So lovely!

3:28am: More birthday flowers. Hee! And the candle Quinn picked out before he left. It smells way yummy. (Almost time for bed, at this point.)

3:28am: Not bed yet... gotta put today's postcards out by the door. We've mailed 680 units to promote the Cricket Feet Showcase by now. Phew!

3:29am: Oh!!! Still not headed to bed. There's Salema in the cubby, so I gotta snap that one too! Note to interns: see, I haven't done ANY sorting/filing since your last visit. ;)

1:16pm: Thwok LOVES bubble wrap. Loves it. Thinks it's an air mattress for her to enjoy.

1:50pm: Time for lunch! Anna Vo hooked me up with rice-flour tortillas last month and I am SET! I have these stuffed with turkey and pepper jack cheese. YUM!

2:59pm: Keith on RED. This thing is soooooo cool.

5:06pm: Dashing out the door for my talk at The Actors' Network, but since Salema is the featured kitty this 12 of 12, I figured one more of her would be fun.

5:50pm: I'm sooooooo bored. We've been in traffic for 45 minutes and have traveled exactly four miles. I am not kidding. So... I discover a spider bite (or something) on my arm. Fun, huh?

BONUS PIC! 6:23pm This month's bonus pic is HOT. Okay, so let me set this up for you... We've now been in traffic for 75 minutes. We *still* haven't made it to the 405 (which is about six miles from our house). Seriously, I have NEVER sat still in traffic for SO LONG. Of course, we're now gonna be late to my talk at TAN. But here's what's HOT... this kid is ROCKING OUT to Yiddish Rap (Hip-hava-nageela, anyone?), BEATING on the outside of his car, driving as far over to the right of the lane as possible, and he *refuses* to pull up whenever traffic begins to roll forward a few feet, because he is SOOOOOOO watching himself in the mirror as he has this private concert going on. He then looks around to see who's watching him (and catches us, here, in the mirror, taking his photo), then watches himself in the mirror some more and blasts the music and rocks the Jew-fro even harder. This guy was HOT. (At least he thought so.) And that's good enough for a bonus pic for me! (Hey, we had to pass the time somehow and this was very entertaining. Traffic sucks!)

8:47pm: So, of course, I forget to take any photos while at The Actors' Network, even though it was a rockstar talk with some of the coolest actors I've met there. And they're in their way cool new digs. I LOVE the new location. It's stunning! Mojitos on the patio soon, Kevin E. ;) So, I snapped a photo of the handwash HAND on Ventura Blvd., as we leave the 818.

11:53pm: One of the actors we saw at TAN was the lovely Ms. Tara Radcliff. She's so dang cool. So, we decided to head to Dan Tana's for a late dinner...

11:54pm: ...and loads of storytelling and gabbing and all that jazz.

So, there ya have it! Another 12 of 12 for you to enjoy. ;) I think I cheated on the last two photos and they were actually taken an hour later than what I've said here (making them officially taken on the 13th), but, eh, it's close enough.

PS--Keith and I met in person in SLC six years ago today. I'm going to post that little story later. Had to get this 12 of 12 up and then back to work. :) Wheeeeee! Happy weekend, everyone. And THANK YOU for all of the wonderful birthday wishes!!!! XO

June 13, 2007

So, finally... it's 12 of 12 for June!

And it's funny! Because the bonus pic was SECRET (and my girl Anna totally gets what a big deal this "secret" pic is... it could be the end of my new gig, but I blog on behalf of 12 of 12 and that's that).

What's 12 of 12? Well, visit Chad to know fo-sho!

11:11am: Slept in, wrote in my journal for an hour, then got up and had left-over PF Chang's gluten-free yummies. Yeah.

3:15pm: I'm heading out. I gotsta go. And that's the mail I haven't opened yet. Good thing Wednesday is intern day.

4:20pm: Best three dollars ever spent. Word.

4:36pm: 'member Dean and Deluca from Melrose Place days? Yeah, that's Aaron Spelling HQ, baby. I used to live over there. Ahh...

5:54pm: Ferrari Carano and the (still unnamed) BlackBerry. Yeah. Good times.

6:01pm: Chillin' w/ my girl Anna and, well, there's been booze and then there's gravity and, well... you see what happens then. (Nice rack, BTW.)

6:10pm: Um, yum. And Anna will point out there are wine bottles on the cushion behind me. Coooooool.

7:11pm: We're at SAG and there are really important pieces of memorabilia to sign. Good thing Anna's around to do the deed! Hee!

7:21pm: Ah! I'd have loved it if we had had this pic taken *at* 7:11 (seeing as Greg and I were both born on 7/11), but there's only so much geek a world can take. ;) Just the same, we had a way good time! Hee!

9:01pm So, the SAG talk with the Heroes gang is over and Anna is molesting her friend Beth (who is married to Jack and who is so cool that she wears hot boots AND tells you where she bought 'em and for how much--SO the sign of good people). Hee!

9:10pm: And because this month's bonus pic is SECRET this photo is included (and it so wasn't gonna be, since we got in trouble for snapping it).

10:22pm: It's Gimlet Time, baby. Anna's first trip back to Dan Tana's since Joe's memorial months ago. But here she is in Joe's seat... and she was treated like royalty (as a goddess should be).

11:01pm: Keith has arrived! (Yes, what you've suspected to be true is true. Keith has come back to LA (for a callback--nice problem to have, natch) and will boomerang back to NM for his shoot again this week. Nice. Busy... and happy... life is that good. Oh, and hello, Craig! You rock!!!!!!!

So, there's my 12 of 12! Not loving life right this second, but, hey... what can you do? You love it some days and others... you just show up and do the deed. That's me right now. Fair enough.

Woo damn hoo!

12 of 12 for May 2007

Howdy! It's 12 of 12 time! Woo!

A quiet day for me, but busy just the same. I actually FORGOT that it was 12 of 12 until 2:30pm, so... oops. Well, I still did it, so there! If you're new to 12 of 12, visit Chad's blog for the low-down. Make sure you share your link with Chad so that your 12 is part of the world of 12. (I have a goal to visit ALL 12 of 12ers' blogs this month.)

So, here we go, Hollywood!

2:41pm: A late start on the 12 of 12, but here I am trying to find a POV contributor for May 15th. I seriously have TEN people saying they're working on something... but no one met the deadline. Augh! I would hate to see this awesome column die due to lack of contributions from CDs (and not just b/c it would mean "losing a job" for me). Write, people! WRITE!

2:55pm: Taking advantage of a wee bit of downtime between the first and second showcases AND the last feature film and the next feature film I'm casting (breakdown goes out next week--woo), we started a HUGE spring cleaning project last week and we're making good headway. These bins contain (L-R): showcase stuff, casting stuff (with the last project I cast ready to hit its project binder being the contents of that box on top of the bin), writing stuff (which needs to be sorted into ten subcategories), and speaking/consulting stuff (yes, that's the infamous "What Were You THINKING?!?" submission binder on top... heh heh).

2:56pm: Sorting the office supplies. Ugh. It's not as sexy as the aisles of Office Depot, but it will be. Interns... y'all ready?

2:57pm: Yeah, that showcase bin (two pics above) looked light, didn't it? Yup. This is the *real* showcase sorting area. See all of those boxes of margarita mix? That's four CASES left over. Strangely, there was no *tequila* left over. How did THAT happen?

2:58pm: Getting the den presentable for Quinn's visit. Yippee!! Can't wait to have him here, as always. We have SO MUCH cool stuff planned! (Oh, man! That bookcase on the right is filled with "to sort" boxes. Ugh. I think I will never run out of things to sort. The COOL thing is, I'm on the PARF Clutter Control Challenge. Their initial requirement was too scary for me, so I modified it and we are kicking ASS at it: Throwing away something (each of us) EVERY day. And it has to be something we were keeping for a reason (not just regular toss-outs). Of course, we get so excited about the small dent we're making that we end up throwing away even more stuff and... yup. Spring cleaning continues!

2:59pm: Re-lighting the candle for Mom (and Deb's mom too). Will light it again tomorrow, Mother's Day, a time to honor all moms, here and above.

3pm: Wouldja look at that precious cast? Aww... I miss them. So talented. Such awesome people.

3:10pm: Lunch. Ew. I thought, after eating it, that I was probably "over" gluten-free Fettuccine Alfredo. After seeing this photo, I'm TOTALLY sure I'm over it. Bleh. But I do love my salt bunny! Hee! It's also a magnet! Bonus!!

6:24pm: In the "doing things in the wrong order" department, I took a shower and then stripped the sheets off the bed and changed the towels, gathered laundry, etc., and--of course--broke a nail. So, here's my not-lovely hand-modeling hand with a broken fingernail. Dangit. Ooh, I now notice that I need to empty the shavings from my pencil sharpener. Okay... DONE. (Yes, I still use old school wooden pencils. I love them.)

7:18pm Ooh, look at that sexy Keith leg! Hee! Laundry sorting. Blah blah blah. Hot Saturday night.

7:18pm: Ooh, my new best friend the portable A/C. Yes, we had to bust that sucker out last weekend when the Santa Anas slammed into me with nosebleed force. No, we don't have it on today, but that sucker is heavy, so it's staying where it is 'til our next major cold snap. Thwok loves to stand on top of it, so it's multifunctional. Dammit, it is! I say so!

7:37pm BONUS PIC!: This month's bonus pic is DREAMSCAPE and I chose my mom's crystal heart-shaped abstract swirly paperweight. Lovely. And good Feng Shui too!

8:27pm: Dinnertime! It's gluten-free cheese pizza with some red wine (and I am all about the "table wine glass" style... I don't need your frou-frou stemware. Well, sometimes I do. You know how that goes).

Anyway, that's my (short) 12 of 12! Hope you'll join in next month. It's way cool to have a look at a day in the life. ;)

April 13, 2007

12 of 12 for April 2007

Woo hoo! Always one of my favorite days... it's 12 of 12 time! And I was especially thrilled about this month's 12 because of all the cool stuffs going on. Some of it actually made it to camera. ;)

If it's your first time to 12 of 12, then visit awesome Chad's blog for the low-down. And, by the way, if it's your first time... where the hell ya been? Be sure to post your link at Chad's blog so that your 12 is shared with the world, as it should be.

1:01am: Stack of postcards to send out for the Cricket Feet Showcase (yes, this is round three of the mailing). So excited!

2:53am: Leftovers from El Cholo, a big glass of milk, and TiVo'd America's Next Top Model. Life, she is good.

4:11am: I've just finished watching the TiVo'd Work Out and I'm crying over Doug. That's all.

7:27am: Archie has decided to kill his sister Salema. *sigh* Kids.

7:33am: Syncing the BlackBerry (Hmm... I still haven't named it. That's odd.) and stamping the postcards. Did more than I thought I would. Damn, I have a big industry mailing list.

1:45pm: Up from a four-hour nap, it's time to check the emails....

3:44pm: Keith driving me to my interview for the Industry RSVP web show. Had every intention of photographing me on set... lights, camera, the whole deal... but...

4:53pm: ...totally forgot the camera was in my purse. But it was open the whole time, so the batteries ran out. Bonus, eh? Anyway, it was a blast spending time with Seth, A'da, Ileane, Gary, Bob, and the rest of the crew as always. I'll post the interview when it's available.

5:15pm: This is why Ileane wants to go shopping with me. Cool purse, cool patchy jeans, cool bracelet, cool BlackBerry case. Hee! Says she loves my hair too, but you can't buy that, baby. ;)

7:20pm BONUS PIC! We've arrived at SAG Foundation for my casting workshop. Jesse agrees to be in the photo only if she can face the other way. Rufino has been renamed Rufiyes, because Keith thinks it will help his love life. This is the bonus pic b/c I had to get a photo that used the word assigned by the Random Word Generator, and mine was TURNAROUND. Funny thing is, it wasn't until AFTER the photo was taken that I realized it would be a great bonus pic. I honestly had no idea how I was going to work TURNAROUND into my 12 of 12. Way to go, Jesse. You rule! Aren't we the cutest?

8:30pm: Assigning scenes to the actors at the advanced SAG Foundation CAP event. So much fun!

10:30pm: SAG Foundation CAP is now over, and Beautiful X and I are going over her new headshot options. Love this chick! So very cool.

11pm: We decide to stay late and Keith launches into "The Luckiest Man in the World" story for Mary and Rufiyes. We laughed, we cried, we embraced. Love these people!

Such a fucking awesome day. I just love my life. It's too dang cool.

March 15, 2007

12 of 12 for March 2007 (so late)

Dang. Is it really the 15th? Really? Man... I have seriously lost DAYS. Luckily, I have now officially slept. So, I'm on the upswing after an intensely scary few days of my life.

Please please please don't indulge my overly dramatic style of writing about this BS sleeplessness. It is SO not a big deal in the big scheme of things. It's just something that troubles me in a major way, so I want to write about it to REMIND ME to not let it get this bad next time.

Okay, so somehow, I managed to take photos representing my 12 of 12 (see rockstar Chad's blog for the rules and links to all participants... seriously, this is so fascinating and cool), but I kind of don't remember doing it.

In fact, I had a conversation with a filmmaker about 12 hours ago during which we established that there were entire chunks of a conversation we had had on Friday that I totally don't recall.

So, let me just say this: While I may only do this bizarre "no sleep for five days or so" thing every 18 months or so, it is NO fun and I will absolutely go to the doctor next time. I promise. Believe me, the alternative is NOT worth it. I made some really bad choices as a result of my sleeplessness and learned that THAT is actually beyond scary.

Okay. Enough with the big-ass blog introduction leading up to the 12 of 12. Here 'tis. Click on any thumbnail to enlarge (and THANK GAWD I can now see straight... did you know that you actually see stars when you don't sleep for days? STARS)!

2:37am: I've gotten out of bed (again) after trying to get some sleep (again) after having alerted my boss that my column would likely be late... but no... I was able to get it done since, of course, I didn't actually sleep. This is Salema, wishing I'd pick a room and stay in it.

2:58am: Archie would like me to STOP trying to work. He must realize that, while I'm capable of functioning on very little sleep 99% of the time, I've gotten to the point where nothing I do is going to fool anyone, so he would like to save me from really screwing up.

2:59am: Thwok, too, is exhausted. See, when I don't sleep, the kitties tend not to sleep. They know something is wrong and they worry about me. They hang out and follow me, room to room, hoping I'll pass out at some point.

3:01am: Maybe junk food will make me sleepy. Am I the only one who eats my Snickers this way?

4:10am: At this point, I have finished my column and made a wish that something big, heavy, and anvil shaped would come crashing down on my head to put me out of my misery. No such luck.

4:48am: Not quite an anvil, but perhaps a Ciroc gimlet will chill me out enough to get a little sleep. One can hope.

6:05am: The note I have for this photo is "just dug through the bin." I have no idea what I dug through the bin to find (or whether I found it), but that's sort of how my life has been since about Friday, as I honestly have lost entire BLOCKS of memory... yet still managed to get stuff done. Scary.

6:31pm: Thwok has gone hunting. We cleaned out the demo reel shelves to do some sorting (and tossing--thanks, Julie) and haven't put the "keepers" back. Therefore, Thwok likes to climb upon the empty shelves and hunt critters. I am mildly entertained. And trying to stay grateful for things that entertain me whatsoever.

7:18am: BONUS PHOTO! This month's bonus was GREEN. I know my blanket doesn't look green, but it is. And the solitaire screen is also green. Yes, I finally downloaded a game for my BlackBerry. That is how bored I am when I cannot sleep. And solitaire is about the only speed of "brain work" I can do at this point.

8:30am: Keith has gotten out of bed and tries to convince me that I can get some sleep if I swig some NyQuil and get in bed. I am appalled at how DARK my eyes are. I look like death. BUT!! I do love that this kind of looks like a Picasso painting. That's cool. ;)

1:34pm: I am sooooooo freakin' bored at this point. I've slept for a grand total of two hours but have stayed in bed in the hopes that I will somehow "get rest" just by being there. Obviously, the fact that I'm doing email just shows ya how restful I'm trying to be. OH! But I was soooo smart to filter out all MySpace alerts at my handheld. Now my emails are down to about 90 per hour at peak times. That's MUCH better.

2:51pm: H2O and 90210. Meanwhile, I'm following up on offers to a few more actors on Broken Windows and finishing up some casting consulting work on Scab (and honestly, I don't remember much more, except that I tried to convince Keith to cancel our dinner meeting with an Atlanta filmmaker, but he insisted that I would be "on my game" once we got to Dan Tana's and started chatting. I'm pretty sure he was right about that.

5:10pm: And this is us on the way to the aforementioned meeting. I ended up leaving the camera in the car, so there are no more photos, despite the fact that I was brilliant and decided the BEST way to finally get some sleep was to drink ALL THE VODKA ON THE PLANET. Mission accomplished.

I finally got my sleep.

It wasn't restful. It wasn't replenishing. It wasn't chemical-free. In fact, it was filled with nightmares and terrors from past evil encounters. And I have bruises. *shudder*

But here's the good news: I survived the OFFICIAL END of the 100 hour sleep-free marathon. And I survived that marathon itself. Damage control issues are reportedly minimal. And now I'm back to me for the next year or so. Or so they tell me. Yay!

I'm DONE talking about this not sleeping thing. So the word for the day is ONWARD. Woo!

February 12, 2007

12 of 12 for February 2007

Hey everyone, here's my 12 of 12! (New to this party? Visit awesome Chad's site for the 12 of 12 scoop and visit fellow 12'ers from around the world!)

Click any photo to enlarge.

6:48am: Our cast for Broken Windows is shaping up! Very excited.

6:50am: Evidence that kitties were playing while we slept. That yellow mouse is about OVER. Its guts have fallen out.

8:01am: Keith's got a big audition today. For Heroes. Yeah, baby!

8:31am: I put in 20 hours in a row on the headshot column... and it's still not finished. I'm going to run it next week instead. Exhausting work.

9:20am: BONUS PHOTO! The theme for this month is LOVE. Awwwwww. Look at those cute gooberheads kissing! (Note: I am now a brunette. Hee!)

12:05pm: Writing a check to the Santa Monica Playhouse for rental of casting space (callbacks next week).

1:04pm: Reviewing submissions for the Cricket Feet Casting Actors Showcase. This is gonna be an amazing experience!

1:56pm: Gonna write in my old-school journal.

2:02pm: Salema making a rare daytime appearance.

2:10pm: I'm willing to bet my Anna Nicole Smith bobble-head doll is worth more now.

2:44pm: Shower time! (And I am soooo tempted to push that button on the shower cleaning thingy. Seriously. I know one of these days I will do it!)

2:58pm: Thwok, as usual, has been standing guard while I've showered. She's very worried that the evil falling water monster will steal my soul, and is therefore very relieved when I emerge, unscathed.

4:22pm: Mail's in. Time to open the headshots. They. Never. Stop. Coming.

So, that's it for my 12 of 12! Hope you enjoyed the little peek.

January 13, 2007

12 of 12 for January 2007

It's 12 of 12 time again! Did you have fun? I did!

Here's my 12 of 12 for January (click any photo to enlarge). Enjoy!

10:18am: After a lovely Gimlet Night, Dawn and I hang out with Archie in bed while Keith barges in and announces it is time for 12 of 12 to begin!

11:17am: This is as far I got on January 11th's evil Samurai Sudoku. Evil. Yes.

12:10pm: Snuggling up with my honey after Dawn has left for yoga, before the interns arrive, and before Keith leaves for his casting internship.

1:17pm: My new boyfriend, Roomba. He's very cute.

1:32pm: There's not a bunch of time for sun this time of year, but pretty much every moment Archie *can* sun, he will do so!

1:41pm: BONUS PIC! This month's bonus pic is "something new." And yesterday, we retired the SixHundy and, after SEVEN YEARS with a Palm OS, I joined the BlackBerry revolution. I'll report back later on my thoughts. So far, so good, though.

2:44pm: Intern Julie in a sea of headshots. I think this photo is titled, "Over it." Hee! But I do believe we cheered Julie up by watching Stick It again.

2:45pm: Hey, it's Lindsay! She's working on the name actor Wiki. Yay!

2:51pm: I stand up for one freakin' minute and when I turn around, that damn cat has stolen my pillowy stack and sealed up for a nap!

8:01pm: THIS is the reason I moved so slowly on the 12th. Too many overflowing martinis on the 11th. *sigh*

8:11pm: Oh! I love this! It's a little "travel towel" (which of course means "washcloth") from Hawaii. Intern Julie brought it back for me last week. Hee! Love Hello Kitty cuties!

8:34pm: Thwok is really happy that we've put new "toys" on top of the cubbies. She especially likes getting up on the big box (a present for my sister in law, waiting here for pickup), chasing shadows on the wall and ceiling, and (obviously) leaping from the cubbies to the floor. She is very brave. (Broken Windows cast photos featured on the cubbies. More announcements to come.)

10:26pm: Doing a little PARF Chat. Always so much fun!

Hope you enjoyed my 12 of 12! I look forward to seeing yours too! See y'all next month.

(Never done 12 of 12? Need a refresher on the rules? Visit Chad's site for the scoop.)

It's ever so much fun (and I really felt out of it, having missed December's 12 of 12).

Bonus pic: something new! (I know what mine will be. We just got back from shopping for my half-birthday. Woo!)

November 12, 2006

12 of 12 for November 2006

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHAD! I hope your special 12 of 12 birthday edition was rockstar, like you!

Here's my 12 of 12 for November (click any photo to enlarge). Hope you'll share yours too!

12:53am: Home from Gimlet Night and approving BonBlogs comments while watching the best worst TV show ever (Cheaters).

2:23am: Thwok is always quite curious. She'd like to see what I'm working on, please.

2:57am: Well, I'm doing the same thing I've been doing with just about every spare minute I can find for the past few weeks: getting the HILMMAKS name actor wiki in order. (Yes, this brings the number of wikis we've created to three. All for casting. Each too different to merge. Luckily, I love the geeky work and know that this stuff (which, I swear to GAWD is not a violation of copyright) is going to be a serious master database that I will use forever. It's just the setup that's time-consuming.) Anyway, had I taken any more photos of my life before going to bed at 6:45am, they'd have looked just like this one.

11:45am: One of my favorite things! I will wake up after a few hours' sleep, play a few games on my Palm Pilot (I call it "saving the world"), and then call out to Keith, saying, "Honey? Come be close." He does. And Archie, of course, does too. My furry boys.

1:35pm: Evidence that there was much PLAY going on as I slept. Do I bother straightening the rug? Again? I know Thwok will just tear it all up again tonight. Ah... it makes her happy. Gotta help along that cause. ;)

3:09pm: Time for breakfast! I know, my schedule is so dang weird. Anyway, it's two eggs with an ounce of cheese and a bit of crispy bacon. Yum! Love a low-carb start to the day. Really good for the energy-flow!

3:50pm: BONUS PIC! This month's bonus photo is THANKFUL. It was hard to choose one thing about which I'm truly grateful, as I spend so much of my life in a state of gratitude. I really have a blast pretty much every moment. And I am grateful for everything I see and feel every day. But the way the sun came in through the west window--hitting the crystal cousin Faith gave us and splattering the walls--was just lovely. So, I chose this as my expression of THANKS.

3:52pm: More of the lovely visual effects dancing on the walls.

6:15pm: My column is done for the week, so I've let my hair down, taken off my wrist-wrap, and begun reviewing the rest of the day's To Do List. Ugh (even though I do love lists). Still too much. Some of this will be done tomorrow. But most tonight. I am so so so so so glad that I have the kind of life that allows me to earn a living while others sleep.

6:20pm: I'm headed to the shower, but I had to get a photo of Keith and his many, many, many computers. You seriously can't see a fraction of them in this photo. Boys and their toys! I tell ya!

6:33pm: Shower. Ahhhhhhh.

6:44pm: Time for dinner! Leftovers from last night's yummy dinner (takeout from the Pacific Dining Car) at Gimlet Night. Seriously, their Filet Oscar is a thing of beauty. Especially delightful with a Ciroc Gimlet on the Rocks. Hmm... they ARE open 24 hours, aren't they? Hmm... Where are my keys? (Oh, crap... there's that To Do List. Ugh.)

7pm: Final moment of my November 12 of 12... that's the fat cat Archie, like a snake finding its heat rock in its terrarium. His is a PowerBook G4 12" on Keith's desk (whether or not Keith is working), thankee very much!

Hope you enjoyed my 12 of 12! I look forward to seeing yours too! See y'all next month.

12 of 12 is Sunday

I'm actually really tired, so I'm going to bed (also, the Frankenputer that Keith has been building is making a really loud whirring sound, so I'm annoyed at being in the same room with it. I'm also hungry. Overly hungry. Like where you're so hungry that you aren't hungry anymore, so go with it? Yeah. Like that. Sleep is like that too. Sometimes I get so sleepy that I wrap back around to not sleepy--or incapable of sleeping, probably--and just stay right on not sleeping. So, here I am, still not eating, but going to bed earlier than usual. Yes, I am aware that it is like 3:30am. What?).

ANYWAY!

12 of 12 is Sunday and if you've never done 12 of 12 then you definitely should do it this month because:
a. it's a Sunday, which means you won't be taking boring photos while you're at work (except for me... Sunday is the day I write my column)
b. the bonus photo is THANKSGIVING or whatever you're grateful for or whatever (that's always a good practice)
c.
d. if you don't do 12 of 12 either this month or next (or both, I guess), then you can't say you've been doing it since its first year (and when it's as big as PostSecret or effin' YouTube and Chad makes $1.6 billion off it, you'll just be some sad Johnny Come Lately who started up in 2007 and everyone will say, "Oh, you are SO a year late," and you will cry).

Holly Cow, is this a post written in the style of Erik KiKi Patterson or what?!? Jeebus!

Anyway, charge your camera batteries, clear off your memory card, and get ready for a fun 12 of 12 on Sunday. Deal? Okay, now I'm to bed. XXOO

12 of 12 (finally) for my nonaversary

FINALLY, I have had enough time to get my 12 of 12 edited and uploaded. Phew! What a day or so! If you're new to 12 of 12, head over to Chad's site for the lowdown. My previous entries are here. As always, I hope if you did your own 12 of 12 that you'll share with the world! Click any photo to enlarge.

12:25am: Keith has gone to bed and I'm up working on the Casting Wiki. The headshots taped up on the wall of cubbies are the actors who read for us at the HILMMAKS staged reading last weekend. My rockstar intern will take these down the following day. (Bless her.)

6am: I've finished work on the Casting Wiki (for now) and am getting out of the shower. Thwok stands guard. Do other cats do this? I know dogs do. But I've never had a Shower Guard Cat 'til Thwok.

2:30pm: BONUS PHOTO. Keith has forgotten a part of his wardrobe for a commercial audition. Joni has arrived, so she and I hop into the car and head over to the audition location to hand off his sweatshirt. This is the HALLOWEEN bonus photo because of the jack-o-lantern decoration in the shop window behind him.

3:10pm: Joni is calling her mom to make sure she knows she's made it to LA safe and sound.

6:36pm: Dinner at Dan Tana's. Yum. Way yum.

8:27pm: Dinner's over, and it's bar time with Mike. This is Subhash, Joni, and Keith (the smallest our group will be all night long).

9pm: Arrival of Babes McPhee. Everyone is very excited. Sure, Joseph Fiennes is hot and all, but this is Babes Fuckin' McPhee we're talking about. That's a celeb!

9:26pm: My sister Deb (future HHH rockstar producer) shows me some see-food. Hee! ;)

9:42pm: Vida happens to know Ron Jeremy, so she brings him by to meet MCJ and pose for a few photos. Very sweet.

9:58pm: Rose and Ashley kickin' it by Craig's home base.

10:18pm: May I touch your chest? Please? YES? Okay! Awesome!

10:38pm: A visit from one of my favorite actors, Katie Keane. She just randomly happened to be there (as did a bunch of ABC casting execs and such)! So cool!

10:58pm: It's almost time for this crew to call it a night. Lots of love for my Niecey Ash and one of the world's hottest young playwrights. (Sorry I made you cry, Babes. *sniffle*) Also in attendance were Eric, Laura, Vanessa, and Asterios.

So, that's it for my 12 of 12! No special nonaversary trip this year. Just lots of playtime and good friends, amazing food, and strong drinks. Life's fun like that. Shall we do it again next month? Yes. Yes we shall! Thanks again, Chad!!

12 of 12 for Sept06

Yo! It's 12 of 12. And I had the most boring day ever (at least in photos--honestly, it was a pretty significant day in terms of the stuffs I can't make public just yet). New to 12 of 12? Visit Chad's site for the lowdown. Want to see my previous attempts, use that 12 of 12 category link on the left margin of the main page. Hope you did your own 12 of 12 and that you'll share with the world! As for mine, let's get to it (click any photo to enlarge).

8:15am: Salema is in bed with me, asking me to stay just a little bit longer. "Please," she says. Sorry, dear. Time to rise. But thanks for shacking with me just the same.

10:45am: Good morning headshots! (Yes, I cobbled two photos.) Wow! There's a bunch of headshots there, eh? (Believe me, that's nothing. I have another crate or two in another part of the room. But it's time to purge. Bless my intern, she's helping make this happen. I must, finally, throw out headshots... and the criteria is getting brutal.)

10:45am: Happy casting binders! Seriously, I love love love being organized. It is totally worth the time and effort to get those deal memos, SAG contracts, audition schedules, cast lists, and sign-in sheets filed away in some decent manner. Ahhhh.

11:15am: Thwok loves it when the cubbies are empty (which is almost never). Notice the chew-marks on the file box. That's what the kitties think of this particular batch of headshots. Rrrrr!

11:45am: My "A-List" actors. This is the file of actors I've cast or who have come soveryclose to being cast (like, we made the offer but the deal fell through or we had to do some sort of recasting for whatever reason). This is my go-to stack, when I need a quick list of "great actor" names. It's more than just the "name actor" list I keep on the computer. It's the actors I know will kick ass... every single time. These are my rockstars (and my hubby has created a Wiki database for me to use in cataloging them all, which has consumed most of my time today... but it's so AWESOME).

11:55am: Said hubby leaves for gaming and acting class--during the latter of which he'll have to do a comedic scene as an auto mechanic. He's wearing a shirt that was given to us by the folks who fix the TicTac (bless its 17-year-old soul).

1:20pm: Don't ever let anyone tell you that scheduling actors for prereads is an easy task. I think I'm going to start giving big, wet, sloppy kisses to the actors who get their audition notices, download their sides, confirm their auditions, and just show up and do the damn thing. I'm so OVER trying to reschedule people. (And only slightly less OVER a producer with daily add-ins... but she knows that. *snork* Dude... we now wait 'til callbacks. K?)

2pm: I've now ordered from PinkDot, so I'm up at the window when I hear a car door slam out front. Nope. Not them yet. But I do spy an example of what will MAKE me go postal someday. Seriously, if you ever hear of me going all gunz-blazing on people for no good reason, this will be why. If you have a large car, PARK IT SO THAT ANOTHER CAR CAN PARK NEARBY. Don't be a jagoff who takes up TWO spots with your own damn self! You WILL feel my wrath.

2:12pm: Pink Dot has arrived. Life, she is good. Quick snack then back to work.

2:20pm: Just got some really good news that I can't even talk about yet (even had to tell Keith to HUSH when I called him about it, b/c he does love to blab sometimes and he does have class tonight, which is a big audience for sharing). This is me unshowered and way too happy. Sooo lovely!

4:44pm: Making notes about the audition sides we'll need for Friday's prereads. Reviewing the schedule, trying not to get stressed out. Feeling good about the sessions. I have happy producers. Just got a fax from the director of another project. Busy Bon.

6:15pm: Time for dinner. California Cobb Salad minus the cheese and egg yolks. Yum! Dealing with some rescheduling issues that stress me out, but for a good reason.

7:24pm: This is my official BONUS photo: "BREAK" (and this is "How I take a..."). A GREAT night of TV. Nip/Tuck (thank you, east coast feed) feeds my porn fix, Big Brother is coming soon, and then there's Real World/Road Rules Fresh Meat Challenge Reunion (which my TiVo missed yesterday, bastids). And now, as I upload, it's The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, which rocks. Nice cool glass of celebration and looking forward to tomorrow's big-ass cool things!

See? Boring 12 of 12. Maybe next month will rock. Thanks again, Chad. It's fun, even when it's boring!

PS--Happy birthday to my superstar niece Tiffany! LOVE YOU!

12 of 12 for August 2006

Happy 12 of 12! See Chad's blog for details on what this project entails and join us next month, won't you?

Click any photo for a larger version. Enjoy!

3:56am: I've been up for two hours or so, working on my Eventful page, emailing with Babes McPhee about the staged reading in a few hours and doing 12 of 12. Wondering if we'll take photos of each other taking our 12 of 12 photos.

5:06am: Finally paying bills. Stack of trash from opening bills (on the right) is about four times the size of the stack of bills (on the left, on top of my computer (which is why it looks like more paperwork... it's up higher to start with)).

7:13am: Fairly typical Bon breakfast (gluten-free organic popcorn sprinkled with Molly McButter in a flavor they don't make anymore). Now going to write royalty checks to Cricket Feet authors who aren't me. Luckily, 92% of July's check from the distributor was for books I wrote, so this quarter's payouts aren't too painful.

9:14am: Finished a "fiendish" Sudoku and now Archie and I are going to take a nap before the day really gets going. (Yes, this is my typical schedule... NOT typical to anyone but me.)

9:38am: Falling asleep for ONE 90-minute sleep cycle (or at least that's the goal). I totally overslept by 30 minutes and had bizarre dreams about being in a play, wearing a gorgeous pink and red satin dress, and then riding on a pontoon boat and having costars trying to get Fred Goss to kiss me.

1:15pm: Babes McPhee at the staged reading, slicing up her soon-to-be-famous BunnerCakes for us to enjoy. (Holy crap, that's some good gluten-free, vegan, rich chocolate cake action going on there.)

3:01pm: BONUS PIC. This month, the word is HOMAGE and I decided to pay homage to the dream that leads so many thousands of artists here.

3:22pm: Had to double back to the staged reading location to pick up Keith's cell phone, which he had left behind. I stayed in the air-conditioned car, parked in the shade, thankyouverymuch.

3:35pm: We're on the 405 and I decide to snap a photo of one of the camouflaged power poles. These and the "fake palm trees" that are really gussied-up cell phone towers crack me up.

3:51pm: Trying to find something better on the radio. (I am obsessed with how long and healthy my fingernails are.)

4pm-ish: This is our neighbor's hot tub, suspended above its typical nesting spot on the patio of his $1.3M condo. It was funny, watching the guys crank this thing up yesterday. I have no idea why it's like this or how long it will be this way.

6:05pm: I've finished dinner and email business regarding a bit of casting I'm still wrapping up (no, I still haven't started my column yet) and now I'm headed back to bed (yes, I'll get another 90 minutes then be up all night), but first I must capture the coloring mastery. Quinn and I each did a Snakes on a Plane picture in June, and these are posted on our heater with magnets from Boybutante and AT&T.

6:20pm: Salema LOVES the naps! She who hides all other times, craves some headbutt-love that is hers for the getting at naptime.

8:33pm: I'm up and editing the 12 of 12 to post. Woo! Another day in the life of me. Hope you enjoyed it!

12 of 12 for July 2006

Hope everyone had a happy 12 of 12. Mine was spent mostly in recovery from an amazing birthday gathering (details to come... with many, many fun photos). But, once Chad inspires you to do the 12 of 12, you must remain so inspired.

Click any photo for a larger version. Enjoy!

First shot of the new day... still at Dan Tana's. "Hey, Mike, what time is it?!?" And yeah, that IS where he keeps his pocket watch. (We stayed for another two hours, natch.)

Finally home, just past 3am. Keith says he's proud of me for having managed to drink gimlets for nine hours straight without getting outrageously tanked. Good girl!

Something like 4am and I'm approving comments left on my blog and checking out the new friend requests at MySpace. Yippee!

Good morning! It's 8am. Salema is happily stretched out beneath our bedroom's best work of art. Hee!

Now, this is this month's bonus pic which is based on the word LIKED, as dictated by the Random Word Generator. Why this pic? Well... I obviously LIKED running my fingernail through this red-frosted mini-gluten-free cake made by the amazing Babes McPhee for many hours yesterday.

See that? Stained! I am STAINED under the fingernail! Love it!

2:30pm. Keith and I leave grease-pencil love notes on the mirror to the bathroom door sometimes. While Quinn was here, we included him in the tradition. (Top to bottom: my note, Quinn's note, Keith's note.)

3pm. The haul. Seriously. This birthday booty was insane!!!!! Man! I have the COOLEST friends.

3:03pm. Now, I can't recall who gave me this cute bag filled with candy. Shoebox? Peow? Who brought this cuteness? Does anyone remember? I thought I was doing a really good job keeping up... and I did, if this is the only thing I missed.

How I spent most of the day. *teehee* I propped my feet up and relaxed. Finally. See, y'all! I *do* know how to take downtime. I swear! (Note to AnnaVO: La Costa Pedicure still rockin'.)

7:20pm. Okay, with that much play, it's time for the workout! To the beach we go. Sportsbra, socks, and shoes from Mitchell (present from birthday two years ago) at the ready. Yeah!

As we head out, I see that Cray Cray has put her Bay Bay back out (it was down the day after I blogged about it... making me certain neighborlady is a BonBlogs reader). "Is it Cray Cray Bay Bay or Cray Cray's Bay Bay?" I asked Keith. "Cray Cray, Bay Bay, all the Say Say," he replied. *snork* He's funny.

9:11pm. Back from the walk, there's two deliveries! One from my kickass intern Julie (A basket of gluten-free cookies, y'all!) and one from William Morris. Man, my birthday rocked this year. And I love that I can walk to the beach at sunset with my honey, return to work and treats, then share it all with you thanks to the 12 of 12.

Awesome.

June 12, 2006

Happy 12 of 12!

This month's 12 of 12 was much more exciting than last month's 12 of 12 for me. (Visit Chad for all of this month's participants. He was shooting for 75.) PARDON THE NAME-DROPPING LINKAGE AND RANDOM STORY-TELLING. I figured it was a good time to get everyone up to speed a bit.

Oh, and click any of these photos to see the larger version.

Started the day with the assigned "bonus photo" (one taken at 7am PDT). Keith heard my alarm going off, grabbed a cat, and came in to show me his phone reading "7am," which I made my first photo. (Back to sleep, since I went to bed at 5am. Keith, however, was on his way to the Funk Bros. with his ailing auto.)
A couple of hours later, I was up and scheduling callbacks for Salvation, Texas. Happily, I also got to CAST two actors today. Yippee! Congrats to Mark and Alison! Y'all rock! (I'll start building the cast webpage soon.) Also, I got a call from Dee (with whom the HILMMAKS producers met last week--while I was meeting with Chris--both of whom it seems will be offered roles in that film; plus Chris looks like he's in for The Masquerade) asking me to sub her acting class one day later this month. Of course, I said yes! I love her students. They're awesome!
Then, Keith and I headed off in the TicTac for Los Feliz. By way of Koreatown. Cool sign, eh?
Keith did the photographic goodness, here. I was the art director. Hee! Love the Wiltern. It's such a cool color.
After our lunch, I snapped this photo of the TicTac with the House of Pies sign. First time I'd been to the House of Pies since October, 2001 (after a brilliant play at the Company of Angels).
Our date, my buddy Richard, to whom I was able to offer a role in How I Lost My Mind and Killed Someone last week. He accepted. I'm so freakin' excited about how this film is taking shape! Since he bought lunch today, Keith and I will take him to Tana's as a thank you after Quinn leaves town.
I never thought I would spend $30 filling up my gas tank. It only holds 11 gallons, for cryin' out loud! But, I do have to say that the ARCO on Franklin at Gower has always been the cheapest gas I've ever seen... even when I lived at the Hollywood Tower in '93 and Melissa and Chick found a kitten (which they named Arco) there.
I wasn't going to use this photo (I have many others from the day's events), but I really like the distorted image. The accordian bus is one of my favorite funny-looking things in LA traffic. And how gorgeous are the jacaranda this time of year! Wow!
Apparently they've slipped a condom over the 360 Building. Somehow I missed the news that it was on fire a year ago. I blame TiVo.
Tip from the former Improv Comedy Traffic School instructor: if the meter is blinking "FAIL," you don't have to put money into it. You do, however, have to put a note on it, if you plan to do more than run in and out of the Hollywood Post Office like I did (after dropping Keith off to get his car from the shop).
Cricket Feet World Headquarters. Did you know our official offices were so small? We have pixies working for us in there. They are very happy.
It was such a lovely day that instead of coming right home, I drove the extra seven blocks and did a lap by the spot where Keith and I got married 361 days ago. Wouldn't you get married there too? It's just so gorgeous here!
Back home, back to work. Answering machine is all but full of messages from agents confirming actors' callbacks for Wednesday, casting directors with questions about our panel at the Hollywood Black Film Festival on Thursday, and news that Dennehy officially has our script now. Had to make some changes to our vacation schedule due to OUR building being tented (sheesh!), but it looks like that all worked out just great too. Hee!

Y'know... I think I might just have the most kick-ass life available for a dollar. So glad I bought it. Totally worth it. Hope your 12 of 12 was as much fun. Yippee!

May 13, 2006

12 of 12

While an assignment of 12 photos on ANY OTHER DAY thus far in May would've been way more interesting (read: I'd have left the effin' house), I did the deed just the same. Enjoy! And head over to Chad's blog for many, many more (he's hoping for 60 this month). Click any of the photos below for larger.

My "bonus" photo (the self-portrait) was my first of the day. It's 6am, just a few hours after I went to bed, and my hangover is pounding. Yes, I drank wine alone on the 11th. I missed my mom. So what? Got on up anyway and started my day, which included making offers to name actors on this film. I can do that looking like hell, right?

Look who was sleeping guard next to the bed. Sweet Salema. Aww.

Keith is staying at Nelson's, pet-sitting, right now, so he came by for some PB&J (notice the laundry in the background... still not folded).

Sometimes we buy the evil ones some wheatgrass. Sometimes they play IN it while eating it. Go, Archie.

Keith mopped the kitchen while he was home (after changing the litter) and now Thwok is concerned: Something is different. The waterfall thingy isn't exactly where it used to be.

Typical. Gawshk I love the Brenda years!

What has Thwok so excited on the cubbies? The shrimps, of course!

Over 3200 submissions so far (breakdown for three roles in The Masquerade went out on Wednesday afternoon) and most of them are for the one female role (natch). This is one portion of the screen on which I can monitor submissions by agency.

Lit a candle for Mom yesterday--but I like the smell of today's candle even better. It's the Caramel Creme, to which the amazing Jodi turned me on back in March. Yummy! Anyway, those are photos of Mom and Maxine (my aunt).

Guess whose CSI: Miami clip showed up on The Soup tonight! Hee!

Realizing I never showed off my new office in all its glory. So, here 'tis (boy headshots with blue dividers on the left, girl headshots on the right, postcards in shoeboxes atop those, "A-List" actors male and female in smaller stacks with yellow dividers, lots of demo reels and taped auditions [there are more on the floor right now], binders each with four completed casting projects from years past, plus one of those red bins is filled to overflowing with headshots to sort/purge and thank you notes to keep/toss while another mailbin is filled with headshots of priority actors for HILMMAKS... I so need an intern for a couple of days; sleeping cat next to the editing bay):

That was fun! Thanks, Chad!

A Day in the Life

So, 'member when I couldn't participate in Chip's "A Day in the Life" Challenge? Yeah, well, we finally got a working card reader. Woo hoo!

Nov1pm619.jpg

Since an average day for me is about 30 hours in length, these photos begin at 6:19pm November 1st and end at 11:30pm November 2nd. The above is a photo of my headshot files, which were a big focus of this particular day, seeing as a breakdown for a film I was casting went out around 4pm.

For everyone else's cool challenge photos, visit Chip's blog (which links 'em all).

Nov1pm619a.jpg

6:19pm: just over two hours since the breakdown went out and I've received electronic submissions from almost 100 talent agents and managers.

Nov1pm720.jpg Nov1pm720a.jpg Nov1pm720b.jpg

7:20pm: got a cool Canadian TV series on DVD in the mail, Salema is bored, and I'm watching America's Next Top Model season one on VH-1.

Nov1pm830.jpg

8:30pm: Nip/Tuck is on. Awesome.

Nov1pm930.jpg Nov1pm930a.jpg

9:30pm: conference call with the film's director and producer, discussing "name" actors we may want to go after.

Nov1pm1033.jpg

10:33pm: pistachio snack break.

Nov1pm1120.jpg

11:20pm: casting deal memo (revised) has come in via fax. Thwok loves to guard the fax machine and its droppings. Sometimes she loves to walk on the fax machine and keep faxes from coming through acccurately. She is not the best office assistant.

Nov2am1244.jpg

November 2nd, 12:44am: cantaloupe snack break.

Nov2am111.jpg Nov2am111a.jpg

1:11am: brush teeth, check for more grey hairs.

Nov2am220.jpg

2:20am: Archie, too, is bored.

Nov2am330.jpg

3:30am: kitty bath break.

Nov2am428.jpg Nov2am428a.jpg

4:28am: running three different Internet browsers to review headshots, resumés, and demo reels (some of which I download). Finally ready to get some sleep after I play a few games on the SixHundy.

Nov2am1002.jpg Nov2am1002a.jpg

10:02am: good morning, sunshine! Thwok is on my ass, Archie and Salema are in the "staging area," knowing it's time for wakey, and that means no more sleeping (in this room, anyway). Note all of the scripts on the bottom shelf. Half are projects we've worked on. One fourth are projects our friends have worked on or on which we've considered working and passed. The last fourth are projects we're considering.

Nov2am1108.jpg

11:08am: typical first morning after a breakdown goes out. Eleven new messages since 8:30am.

Nov2pm1205.jpg

12:05pm: choosing sides from the script for prereads, on the phone (headset) with an agent, reviewing casting suggestions on the Breakdowns website.

Nov2pm120.jpg

1:20pm: my favorite judge is on. Awesome.

Nov2pm230.jpg

2:30pm: color-coordinating priority submissions, pitches, and wishlist actors from the producers' notes. Yes, 90210 is on.

Nov2pm335.jpg

3:35pm: Keith and Archie (Archie is ALWAYS between).

Nov2pm444.jpg

4:44pm: more of same.

Nov2pm600.jpg

6pm: Keith has returned from Faith's with copies of her new headshots (gorgeous). VH-1 is airing I Love the '80s, which always rocks.

Nov2pm715.jpg

7:15pm: reviewing two more submissions.

Nov2pm820.jpg

8:20pm: same, same, same.

Nov2pm944.jpg

9:44pm: bored yet?

Nov2pm1011.jpg

10:11pm: I've been typing so much I've had to put on my wristbrace and ghetto elbow wrap (cut up socks). Analyzing actors' credits, pulling out duplicate submissions, dismissing unqualified or incorrectly submitted actors.

Nov2pm1130.jpg

11:30pm: quick shower, then time to leave the house! We're going for a walk. Finally.
