Deep Thoughts

Why is "Jack" short for "John"?
Why is "Hank" short for "Henry"?

I mean, I get "Dick" for "Richard" (even though "Rich" makes more sense) and "Liz" for "Elizabeth".

But "Bitsy" from "Elizabeth"? And "Peggy" from "Margaret"?
How?

Why is Kiki short for Erik?

Some things just are, I guess.

Them crazy Brits. They don't know how to talk good. They orta just call ever-body Junior or Bubba. Or Bubba Junior. Solves that.

My mom's name is Margaret but everyone knows her as Peggy. It has always confused me, too... Especially since it is OBVIOUS that her name is "Mom".

It turns out that Hal comes from Harry, not Harold. So my full name should be "Harry Perry," (as I wrote on my blog yesterday).

Fortunately, it isn't.
