Opinions Please

I'm not going to tell you whose opinion is which in this situation (consider it like the ants vs. fleas debate that I totally won three years ago).

I have five copies of Self-Management for Actors that came back undeliverable, when we tried to mail them to people ages ago. They're autographed TO those people (casting directors, contributors, etc.).

Keith and I do not agree with one another on whether it would be appropriate to leave them out on a "freebies" table at Hollywood Happy Hour on Monday, so that anyone who wants 'em can have 'em, even though they were originally intended for other people.

Your opinion?

I would Sharpie through the name in the autograph and leave them out on the table. Unless you feel like trying to mail them again.

Yay for freebies. Give 'em away!

I think Chip is right. Try to locate the people again, and if you still can't find them, neatly blot out the autograph, and set them out on the table.

Give them away!!!

Try to locate again and if not possible...blot out or white out the autograph, give away and offer to sign for the new person. Maybe find out who the newest newbies are at the event and give them to those people as a "welcome to town" present.

Not related to anything, but SO important. Are you going to Tori's yard sale?

Definitely give 'em away. The book is too good not to share. And honestly if any actor seriously thinks twice about taking a FREE book (which was GIVEN to them!) because it has someone else's name in it... then they don't deserve to have it anyway.

Okay... so who's on which side of this topic???

I think if the folks were "special" enough to warrant an autographed copy, they deserve a second mailing.

If you don't go that way, I say sell them for 1/2 price at HHH(still a great deal for actors!) or raffle them off so more folks get prizes.

Bonnie,

Give them away. I agree with Shea. The book is too good not to share. And the people who get the free books will be better for it.

Be well,
Bob

Hmmm... I love ethical dilemmas. (I solved my most recent one by finding the DVD for sale...so no telling netflix it was "lost in the mail". Though the same cna't be said for going to class... I'm going to be "sick" next Tuesday so I can go see "The Vertical Hour"...again. Thus sparing you from an immensely boring 12 of 12.)

I guess I'd split the difference. IF there's a way to get in touch with the intended parties and get an address, send them. If not, give them away! :)

you could do something similar to what we do when excess books are going to be given away to a school--usually because they've been paid for. Just tear out the autographed page (we actually tear off half of the cover to make it undesirable as a re-sale--anyone really picking it up wants the content, not the table top decoration). you could even use a sharpie on the inside cover and state "not for resale" or some such thing to make it look official, and give em away!

Give them away Bon!
