Braved the streets. Made it to work.

Streets still icy

Even though the roads were still crappy, UGA opened at 11:00 today. The worst part for us is our neighborhood. We have lots of trees which create lots of shade. The ice loves the shade. But, no incidents so that is good. Swiffer may wonder where we are but he’ll figure it out soon enough.

Made it it the pub

Yesterday, we walked to Five Points and that was actually pretty tough. The sidewalks are still solid ice. We ate lunch at the Royal Peasant and then got drinks from Golden Pantry and some chips from Earth Fare. The essentials.

The Golden Pantry Snowman wanted us to know they were out of pizza.

No Pizza

That was our big journey out for the day.

I assume that work will start at a normal time tomorrow. I think Swiffer may go spend the day at Pawtropolis so he can run around and get some exercise. I probably should do that too. Being stuck at home for several days is not really conducive to weight loss.

Oh my. More Snow Days.

Still Crappy Outside

I’m writing this on the beginning of our third day off from work due to the snow. I don’t ever remember UGA ever being closed for this long. We have been watching lots of TV and eating lots of Trader Joes frozen foods. Swifter seems bored, annoyed, and excited by the ice at different times. Me too, actually.

Our big journey yesterday was to my Mom and Keith’s house. We sledded in their backyard and street. We thought Swiffer wanted to sled.

He may not have, but we had a good time.

Visiting Mom's

Of course, the best part was watching the Hoarders episode about the man with all the rats. And hot chocolate.

The hardest part was the long walk back home.

Snow Day Adventure : Trip to Five Points

We decided to get out of the house after lunch and brave the snow and ice. We started walking up the street and passed one of our neighbors who was getting his car warmed up to take his kid to the hospital for a possible broken arm from sledding. That really sucks.

When we got up to the church parking lot, Swiffer decided he liked the snow all of a sudden so we decided to run around for a while.

Once we got to Milledge, I thought it would be a good idea to keep walking to Five Points to see who was out and what was open.  Luckily, Jittery Joes’s was and so our trip was not made in vain. There were lots of people out walking and quite few out driving.

Oh yeah, I’d like to thank Mr. Andy Ingalls for braving the ice earlier today to deliver baking soda and baking powder to us. Sometime soon, there will be cornbread made in his honor. Sure, it helped that he was coming this way anyway to get his shovel but let’s just pretend that it was for us. It pays to tweet.

Here are some pics from our journey:

We have off work tomorrow also.  Thank goodness we have milk and bread. And wine and macaroni and cheese.

Snow Day

Snowed in 2011

That is the view outside our back door when I let Swiffer out this morning. I say “let out”. I really mean forced out into the snow by pushing him down the steps. But, I imagine i would hate pooping in snow up to the tops of my legs, also. It still seems to be coming down out there. Oh boy!

But, I am glad we are home today because at this rate, the first Monday we will have to work in 2011 is now not until 1/24 (next week is MLK).

We have our bread, we have our milk, and we have our other necessities.

If anyone wants to come over and play in the snow, we’ll be here reading comics and watching Netflix. Unless the Internet goes out and that’s not even funny.

Not sure what happened there.

Getting the blog working again has been a bit more hassle than I thought it was going to be. When twitter changed authentication methods, my tweets stopped going to my lifestream updates page. I like to send them there so I can keep a copy of them in case twitter ever goes away.

Well, a few minutes ago, something crazy happened and my lifestream and twitter plugins started going crazy and sending out tweets for dozens of events. These, of course, were sent as status updates to my facebook.

Did not like.

Since I wasn’t sure how much it was posting, I went into disaster recovery mode and turned off all the automatic connections between my blog, twitter, and facebook. Now, I can’t seem to get it all back working like it did. The lifestream plugin I like seems to be abandoned and my tweets aren’t going to facebook anymore.

More work is in my future.

Hey There 2011

Butter Beer

So, I took 2010 off from blogging but I did manage to make some butter beer.

Who knows what wonders twenty eleven will bring.

I also got an iPad which i am blogging from for the first time.

Almost Doctor Who Day!

The TARDIS, originally uploaded by dryponder.

This Sunday is the premiere of the 5th series of the new Doctor Who. I was not at all excited when they announced Matt Smith as Doctor 11. But, that’s all different now after seeing some clips.

If the internet gods are friendly, I should be able to watch it Sunday night. So, keep your fingers crossed. If you want to come watch, I can give you an ETA on Sunday afternoon.
