Amaryllis Is Red, Violets Will Be Blue

I inherited a spindly-looking African violet from a neighbor, and it was badly in need of a makeover. I trimmed a bunch of leaves in order to propagate new violets and I cut and repotted the original plant (back left).

We’ll see how many violets result. I’ve always heard about this method–even received a few violets this way–but I never tried it. It’s hard to imagine an entire plant springing from one leaf. If this experiment turns out, this will be one of my many methods to inexpensively produce gifts. If you don’t get any gifts from me, blame Mother Nature.
And here’s a gorgeous amaryllis.
