A Few Green Things

I forgot to post about the pool party last weekend. Cheryl invited us to her pool, and we brought a grill, and it was a wonderful Saturday. Pictured here are Alison, Mike, Anne Marie, and Saskia. We were not afraid of the water’s greenish tint or the broken floats. In fact, it was lovely. Just right.

I like this picture of the Professor and Nate, staring off at the grill, Nate almost in the posture of The Thinker. I was told they were in an intense discussion about gaming.

I think I forgot to blog about going to see The Hulk a while back. Sarah organized a big group of us to go–Kristy, Thad, Marlene, her sister, Anne Marie, Alison, Mike, the Professor, and me–and it was so much fun! Afterwards we had pizza and gelato at the new pizza place in Beechwood–I forget the name, something about pie, but it was terrific–and we discussed The Hulk‘s merits and plot holes and Tim Roth. I enjoyed hearing the Professor and Marlene discuss Sci-Fi and Fantasy fiction, which is a new world to me, and not instinctively my taste, as it is sometimes lacking in characterization and metaphor, my interests, but I want to learn more about the genre. Marlene suggested that I read Octavia Bulter’s Kindred, and Sarah let me borrow her copy. As soon as I finish the latest self-help book, I’m going to dig in. After we ate, we went to AthFest and heard the Modern Skirts, and I bought some earrings for myself almost identical to Sarah’s. Alison bought a painting of a cat butt.
Here’s a hat I started for a Christmas gift. I love how the colors turned out–I didn’t even pick this lovely blue-green combination, but of course it would be the one I would pick. Pretty pretty.
Hat with Malabrigo
It’s Malabrigo Chunky. In skein form, it seemed to be half dark green and half purple, but wound up and knitted, it looks blue. I haven’t liked knitting it with the bamboo needles so much because it has a faintly squeaky feel to it, which no one else on Earth would perceive, but fortunately for me, it knits pretty quickly. I’ve actually finished the hat proper, but am awaiting a crochet lesson to finish it up.
I had only a half day at work today. Awesome. Which I have mostly squandered playing with chickens, watching court shows on TiVo, and knitting. Awesome. I was supposed to help my father garden today, but I was too lazy to drive to the East Side, even for the promise of squash and green beans. Besides, I have some produce here. That Cherokee Purple tomato is gorgeously ripe, and I’m going to bake cornbread and eat them together tonight. I do gluttony right.
