Cleaning Up the Poop

Rose’s butt has been very poopy lately. I’ve hoped it would get better with weather dry enough for her to take dust baths, but today I came home and found one of Corabelle’s feathers stuck to the poop. The grossness had gone too far. It had to be stopped.

Gross. So what does one do with a gross poopy chicken? Why, bring her into your house, of course. I took her to the bathtub, washed her in slightly warm water, and she mostly cooperated but liked to get her wings loose and flap them at me. All that gunk must have been rather uncomfortable. After she was all clean, I dried her feathers with an old towel and then a blow dryer on a low setting. I never would have guessed a chicken would stand for a blow dryer, but I’ve read about it on various chicken blogs and backyardchickens.com posts, so I tried it. She seemed to like it, actually. Here’s a blurry picture of her freshly done ‘do.

Here she is, so very happy (except not). But poop free. For maybe a half hour.

Those clothes are in the washing machine for the second round. They didn’t get dirty that I could tell, but still. My bathroom is now sparkling clean and Lysoled too.
Also in the spirit of washing poop out of my life, I am going to start looking for a job in Atlanta right now, so if you have any ideas, suggestions, friends, connections, tips, or job openings, please let me know.

Ummm…I think a line has been crossed. Yes, it definitely has been crossed!

Sometimes I have to help Pele wipe the poop. It’s embarrassing for him; it’s embarrassing for me; we just do it, look in opposite directions, and pretend it never happened.
