AMEN!

trevor posted this entry the other day which included a link to a phenomenal youtube video that sums up everything i’ve been trying to get a room full of people to understand for over a year now (to little or no avail). digital information is accessible to anyone and can “conform” to any number of formats. it’s no longer about getting the information; it’s what we do with that information that’s most important now. there are loads of people thinking outside the box to create this multimedia explosion, but we’re too busy trying to make it all fit inside the box. to make this work, we might need to rethink a few things about our rules (legal or cultural).
so how excited was i when i woke up this morning to hear on the radio that steve jobs has chimed in on the issue as it pertains to digital music?! very. not only has he written an extremely persuasive essay on the subject, he posted it on the apple homepage!
this is going to be a very exciting ride!

Happy Groundhog Day!

there was some debate yesterday as to whether or not the groundhog seeing his shadow meant six more weeks or winter, or indicating that spring is right around the corner. according to wikipedia (the leading source for everything), here are the official rules to the game:

In traditional weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow because the weather is bright and clear, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks.

So what is Phil’s prediction? From the official Punxsutawney Phil homepage:

Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!
Phil’s official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler’s Knob:
El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west.
Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed.
Global warming has caused a great debate.
This mild winter makes it seem just great.
On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring?
On Gobbler’s Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way. (link to story)

On another note — thank you to everyone who did the snow dance! I KNEW IT WOULD WORK! I do believe in snow days! I do!
