earl in "odorama"

so, apparently in another completely unoriginal marketing tactic (because they can’t come up with an idea on their own without shamelessly ripping someone else off), nbc is including scratch ‘n sniff cards in the sweeps week tv guides so that you can get a whiff of what camden county really smells like while watching my name is earl. ummm…. ew? i mean, really. the thought of randy’s scent alone makes me throw up a little.

i hope the office to makes a “winky dink and you” joke. i would much rather them provide a magic drawing screen to connect the dots between an awkward moment in michael and jan’s relationship.

Happy Earth Day!

life has been busy since i last posted to the spynotebook. a blur, actually. finally, i have a moment to catch my breath and rattle on the “inter-web” about miscellaneous things stuck in my brain.
today is earth day. i woke up thinking about it the other morning, blinking and wondering why i thought about it this year as opposed to any other year. i’m not really sure why, but since i actually made it all the way to lent with my new year’s resolution* i figure maybe a few earth day resolutions might be in order. (i will not proclaim loud and proud what it is i plan to do exactly. that’s just providing ammunition for those who keep track of resolutions. i am not a fan of those people.)

here are some of my favorite easy-peasy earth day resolutions:

  • go to the park! — if you use them, support them. that doesn’t have to mean supporting them with your money, either. if you see trash while you’re walking, biking, hiking… well, pick it up!
  • bring your own bag, hippie! — while the great debate rages on over paper vs. plastic, there is no question that a reusable bag made of canvas is probably your best choice. it seems that every time i go to a conference, someone’s shoving a canvas bag in my face with their logo plastered over it. there’s nothing wrong with painting over it. of course, there are so many styles and colors these days, that it’s pretty easy to avoid the plain beige bags. no matter how cute your bag is, be sure to avoid the worst fashion faux pas ever — leave the birkenstock’s at home.
  • buy better batteries — buy rechargeable batteries whenever you can. if you can’t, be sure to recycle the old ones.
  • ditto above, but for light bulbs — buy energy efficient light bulbs. you can save money on your power bill and help the environment. an even better option? turn off the light and open the curtains. natural light is your best energy saver when it comes to lighting.
  • play in the dirt — planting flowers, veggies, herbs, or trees is fun, dirty, and nothing but good things can come from them. go on and bring me a shrubbery.
  • alternative transportation — while walking or biking to school or work might actually be a realistic option for some (like myself — i can’t imagine a worse option than showing up to work in dress clothes sopping wet with sweat in the summer heat after pedaling my chubby rear end up that last hill before the turn off), carpooling or taking the bus might be a better option.

*note — new year’s resolution was to stop drinking cokes. i made it until lent, at which point my lenten resolution was to stop stop drinking cokes. (this was around the time the weather warmed up to a prime 85 degrees.) well, now that easter has long since passed, i have not stopped my lenten resolution and reverted back to my new year’s resolution. perhaps my earth day resolutions will have a little more staying power. =)

go, scotties! go!

my cousin passed this along to his mother (my aunt), who passed it on to her sister (my mother), who passed it on to me. neither my aunt nor my mother remember much about 1966, but my cousin and i each know a member of the opposing teams. it’s divided into three parts because of length.
