Chicken Auction

Anybody want to go to the chicken auction in Danielsville with me this Friday?

The newspaper doesn’t say when the auction starts, but indicated that

by 6 p.m., hundreds of colorful birds are crowing and clucking, waiting to go on the auction block at the hall of Georgia Highway 281 in Madison County.

You can even eat supper there:

Charles Moon of Bowman claimed he and his wife, Betty, come for the food at the small restaurant in the back of the auction hall, where relatives of Bell and Hamilton serve tasty fare–French fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, and cheeseburgers.

This is bound to be a cultural event. Evidently there’s also a large Hmong contingent as well. I am hoping to find some hens. But even if there are no Aracauna’s on the block, I hope to meet some breeders, who will provide me with the blue-egg laying birds.

One Response to Chicken Auction

  1. We’re going to try to make it tonight, so perhaps we’ll see you there. It all depends, of course, on how Thalia’s doing, whether she naps, blah blah blah. What’s the deal with the Hmong? How many of them can there be in Athens (besides my hairdresser)?
