Being able to sit outside for a meal or a drink in downtown Athens contributes to the near-constant buzz of activity that is characteristic of the central business district.
For this reason, many downtown bar owners and restaurateurs resent a proposal to hike up rates for the use of public sidewalks for outdoor cafes currently under consideration by Athens-Clarke County commissioners.
