Chiprospective: 2002: The Palindrome Year

wouldn’t 2002 been a lot cooler if in the middle of summer we had just repeated the first half again?

Apparently, 2002 was a pretty uneventful year in my life. I did solve a personal mystery however.

A Great Mystery of Life Solved

Somewhere in the Chip Woods archives (currently located at 574 North Milledge) there exists a piece of cardstock with a message scrawled on it. I can’t remember the exact words but it was from someone named Tessa. It said something about us being best friends and some other stuff such as that. We believe it was written while I was living at 248 Marion Drive about 10 years ago (the Nick and Mitch house). It has always looked like Susan’s handwriting but her and I have discussed it at length and she didn’t write it. It has been one of the great unsolved mysteries of my life. Who is this girl that I had long since forgotten that I must have been very close with. Also, how would I ever find out this information.
Well, happily, I can report that the mystery is solved and the mystery best friend is Tessa (formerly of Athens, currently of Seattle) and a bridesmaid at Jenny’s wedding. She thinks that we only met once but we might have met twice. I can’t really remember. We met at Jenny’s 18th birthday party at DaVinci’s and talked about Star Trek and klingons. I thought she was really cute, I remember.
So, she sees me at the wedding and starts off our conversation by saying that she still has a picture of us from the party and we look like lifelong friends, two peas in a pod. I meet her mom who is pretty confused about who I am.
Later, we are sitting near one another having some cake and I ask her to fill me in on the last 10 years. She summed it up fairly quickly with a “went to college. now I am shacked up in Seattle”. I replied with a “Yeah, I just stayed here.” She asked me what the most exciting thing to happen to me in the last 10 years was and I went with Start Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas. Somehow I forgot all about seeing Britney twice. I think that would have given me some points.
So, I get home last night and I am sitting here editing some pictures and I remember the note and it all clicked.
It was an epiphany. I wanted to call Susan right then and tell her that the mystery has been solved. But it was about 1:00 AM so I decided to blog instead. But then that blog got erased. So I wrote this one.

Discussion Questions:

1. Why did nothing exciting happen in 2002?
2. If Tessa reads this someday will she think it is cool or get creeped out?

Hmmm… In 2002 I moved back to Athens, started law school, and bought my first house. A pretty big year for me, I think!

Let’s see… I published my first book in 2002, worked for Sundance for part of the year, started a management company, and did NOT get married.

If Tessa reads this, I think she’ll love you all the more. Why don’t you ever write about the notes I’ve left in your house? Oh… wait… I think I only spelled out BOOBS using your refrigerator magnets.
