We thought that the cooties were out to get us but we managed to win the silver (2nd place in this case being $25 in Loco’s Dollars). Scrappy was sick, Ron wasn’t coming because Susan was sick, and I sat there by myself up until about five minutes before trivia started. But, people started showing up.
Scrappy and the Strombot arrived (cooties in tow) and then by 8:30, Sheni had shown up and soon Marilyn and Kelly completed our team. We were ready to show off how smart we were about unimportant things.
Things we knew:
- The Pyrenees are between France and Spain.
- Ace of Base is from Sweden.
- Thelma was Geena Davis. Louise was Susan Sarandon.
- Pangea was that really really big continent a really long time ago.
- Temple of the Dog was made up of members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.
- Diane Lane played Sherri ‘Cherry’ Valance in “The Outsiders”
- Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, Louis Anderson, and Richard Carnes all hosted “Family Feud”.
- The US purchased Alaska from Russia.
- Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Jimi Hendrix were all memorialized on the cover of Rolling Stone between 1970 and 1971.
- The USS Missouri was the ship where the Japenese surrendered during WWII.
- “Weeds” takes place in Agrestic, CA.
- Burlington is the most populated city in Vermont.
- Sylvester Stallone, Janine Turner, and John Lithgow all starred in “Cliffhanger”.
But there were also things we didn’t know or weren’t sure about.
- I got confused in my ordering of “Tonight Show” hosts and mistakenly placed Jack Parr before Steve Allen.
- We didn’t know that Sugar Ray Robinson was the 1st to win his 5th divisional world championship in 1958.
- We didn’t know Arbuckle was Jon’s last name in “Garfield”.
- We didn’t know that the slogan of Keystone Light was “always smooth”.
- We mistakenly counted 1 as a prime number even though there was a math major on our team when were to count the primes under 23.
- We didn’t know something about Sandy Koufax and baseball.
- We only knew five of the six Nobel Prizes.
Special props to Marilyn from Newfoundland who knew Al from Home Improvement was named Richard Carnes for the “Family Feud” question and to my brain for knowing USS Missouri and Cliffhanger. Why that stuff is in there, I will never know.
So, if you KNEW any of the things we didn’t know, you should totally come play with us (or against us) next Tuesday.
