What do the words empleomania and escutcheon have in common?
Our team didn’t know how to spell either one.
The spelling bee was a lot of fun yesterday. In terms of fund-raising, our team blew the others out of the water by hundreds of dollars. Our final count was $705. I was told at brunch today that we actually gave more than any of the sponsors did. So, thanks again internet!
We did a LOT better at the spelling than we thought we would do. We were the last team to get eliminated before the final round where two teams went at it. After us, it was the Catholics vs. the Rollergirls and those ladies could SPELL, let me tell you. We would not have made it very long against either of them.
The one part that amused me was when a team actually got asked “bourgeoisie” which I was so prepared to spell. They missed it after stalling for a long time. If the teams had been eliminated differently, it so could have been mine!
There were 11 teams in total, one of which totally had a middle school spelling bee champion (not fair). The other teams were all sponsored by a group or institution. The host was not sure what to make of our “Triplets” team. There was a lot of mispronouncing and long pauses but I am totally ready for next year.
I will announce my raffle winner soon.

As soon as you wrote roller girls and spelling be – I knew Sheila would be in that photo.
I forgot to pledge – is it too late?
Sorry.
