MLK Weekend

It has been a busy weekend. Not so much a South Beach “Lifestyle” friendly one, but pretty good.

Friday night, we hit up the Cracker Barrel and I tried their version of a chef salad. I think I am just going to note here for my future self that you really shouldn’t try to go healthy at the Cracker Barrel. Just because Waffle House and the Varsity have salads, doesn’t mean they are there to be eaten.

Saturday , we started work on the bedroom. Years ago, Kate and I painted the back room orange on a whim and it was fun for a while. Scrappy and I decided to go for the green, or technically, something with aloe in the name. If I get burned while in bed, I am set. I can just rub the wall.

Sunday, we met up with Kate and Veronica for brunch at 5&10. We walked up there and even though we are too warm for sticky snow, it is still pretty cold for walking. After brunch, we painted some more and then went to a lecture given by Rev. Knox about growing up in a neighborhood called the Bottoms. It was north of downtown around College, Pulaski, Hoyt, and those streets. It was bought and torn down in the early to mid 1960s as part of urban renewal. It was fascinating to see the all the old houses and to imagine this close-knit community that was just destroyed. While we were there, I joined me and Beth up for the Athens Historical Society.

Today, we watched “A Mighty Heart” this morning and then ran errands and cleaned up. This afternoon and evening, we went to see “The Savages” at Cine. For $25, you get a ticket to the movie and then dinner next door at the National. It was a pretty good deal and I’ll totally go again. Our group was me, Scrappy, Kate, John, the Professor, Courtney, and Sarah.

Now, I must get things ready for work tomorrow.

BTW, James Marsters on “Torchwood” is AWESOME. Lots of boy kissing for those of you who are into that.
I downloaded it from the UK but it is on BBC America this Saturday.
