Snow Day Adventure : Trip to Five Points

We decided to get out of the house after lunch and brave the snow and ice. We started walking up the street and passed one of our neighbors who was getting his car warmed up to take his kid to the hospital for a possible broken arm from sledding. That really sucks.

When we got up to the church parking lot, Swiffer decided he liked the snow all of a sudden so we decided to run around for a while.

Once we got to Milledge, I thought it would be a good idea to keep walking to Five Points to see who was out and what was open.  Luckily, Jittery Joes’s was and so our trip was not made in vain. There were lots of people out walking and quite few out driving.

Oh yeah, I’d like to thank Mr. Andy Ingalls for braving the ice earlier today to deliver baking soda and baking powder to us. Sometime soon, there will be cornbread made in his honor. Sure, it helped that he was coming this way anyway to get his shovel but let’s just pretend that it was for us. It pays to tweet.

Here are some pics from our journey:

We have off work tomorrow also.  Thank goodness we have milk and bread. And wine and macaroni and cheese.

Some more snow day pictures

The sleet started a little while ago and this is when it gets less fun. But before then, here are some pictures I took.

Snow Day

Snowed in 2011

That is the view outside our back door when I let Swiffer out this morning. I say “let out”. I really mean forced out into the snow by pushing him down the steps. But, I imagine i would hate pooping in snow up to the tops of my legs, also. It still seems to be coming down out there. Oh boy!

But, I am glad we are home today because at this rate, the first Monday we will have to work in 2011 is now not until 1/24 (next week is MLK).

We have our bread, we have our milk, and we have our other necessities.

If anyone wants to come over and play in the snow, we’ll be here reading comics and watching Netflix. Unless the Internet goes out and that’s not even funny.

Not sure what happened there.

Getting the blog working again has been a bit more hassle than I thought it was going to be. When twitter changed authentication methods, my tweets stopped going to my lifestream updates page. I like to send them there so I can keep a copy of them in case twitter ever goes away.

Well, a few minutes ago, something crazy happened and my lifestream and twitter plugins started going crazy and sending out tweets for dozens of events. These, of course, were sent as status updates to my facebook.

Did not like.

Since I wasn’t sure how much it was posting, I went into disaster recovery mode and turned off all the automatic connections between my blog, twitter, and facebook. Now, I can’t seem to get it all back working like it did. The lifestream plugin I like seems to be abandoned and my tweets aren’t going to facebook anymore.

More work is in my future.

8,762 pages later: What I Read in 2010

Saturday Morning

Of course, the 8,762 page count is based on the print editions and I read quite a few of these by listening to them on my iPhone at the gym. Not sure I would have made it through all of Stieg Larsson if I was having to read all the Swedish names and places instead of listening to them. And of course, the more interesting the book was, the more reason I had to go to the gym. But, it was kind of awkward listening to some of the things that Lisbeth went through while trying not to look horrified while riding the bike.

Ender’s Game was the only re-read of the year. It was for a book club. We were also supposed to read A Wrinkle In Time but it just didn’t catch my attention this time around like it did when I was kid. Instead, I read When You Reach Me which was about a girl whose favorite book is A Wrinkle In Time. Compromise.

Daemon and Freedom (TM) were better than I thought they would be and Downtown Owl kind of sucked.

Any books y’all recommend for me to read this year?

Downtown Owl Chuck Klosterman
Paper Towns John Green
The Impostor’s Daughter: A True Memoir Laurie Sandell
Liberating Atlantis (Atlantis, #3) Harry Turtledove
Air: Or, Have Not Have Geoff Ryman
The Unwritten, Vol. 1: Tommy Taylor and the Bogus Identity Mike Carey
Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) Gail Carriger
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) Stieg Larsson
When You Reach Me Rebecca Stead
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) Stieg Larsson
Sh*t My Dad Says Justin Halpern
Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) Charlaine Harris
Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour (Scott Pilgrim, #6) Bryan Lee O’Malley
Jam! Tales From the World of Roller Derby Various
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest (Millennium, #3) Stieg Larsson
Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) Suzanne Collins
Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook Anthony Bourdain
Ender’s Game (Ender’s Saga, #1) Orson Scott Card
Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd Holly Black
Daemon (Daemon, #1) Daniel Suarez
The Carbon Diaries 2015 Saci Lloyd
Freedom (TM) (Daemon, #2) Daniel Suarez
The Walls of the Universe Paul Melko
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella Stephenie Meyer
The Carbon Diaries 2017 Saci Lloyd
Ringworld (Ringworld, #1) Larry Niven

If for some reason, the list does not come through on the facebook note, you can see it on the blog.

Last Day of Vacation

Lunch at the Pub

Something is going on with the lifestream plugin on my blog. I upgraded a bunch of stuff at once which is a pretty bad idea. So, there may be a few days of blog turbulence while I get things worked out.

We go our house appraised today. Jocelyn came over to knit with Scrappy after lunch at the pub. This way, someone else was able to see our house when it is the cleanest it will probably be until the next time we have a week off of work to clean.

While they knitted, we were able to finish up the second season of Dexter. We’re a little late to the game but working through them fast.

Back to work tomorrow. Ugh.

2011. Still going strong.

We spent the day fixing up and cleaning our house. We are getting it appraised tomorrow for a refinance. We even washed the windows for the first time … ever?

And we had Taco Stand for lunch.

Hey There 2011

Butter Beer

So, I took 2010 off from blogging but I did manage to make some butter beer.

Who knows what wonders twenty eleven will bring.

I also got an iPad which i am blogging from for the first time.
