I promise to write about something else soon. Promise. Promise. But, it went out again last night. I unsplit it and it came back on just now. For those of you who are geeks or who are in love with me and want to know everything, it’s all in the extended.
It is a power issue. Lookit:
My readings:
Downstream Receive Power Level : -17.6 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 27.7 dB
from some docs online:
Downstream Received Power: the DOCSIS specification requires cable modems to function correctly with downstream power levels in the range -15 dBmV to +15 dBmV: power readings at or close to those extremes are likely to be unacceptable. However, when connected to a real-life CATV network, a cable modem might be functional over a narrower range than this. Accordingly, cable ISPs will specify an even narrower target range when commissioning their network: this target range will differ according to ISP.
when I plugged it into the splitter, it was getting readings from -2 to -22. Way wack. I also felt a shock at one point so the issue may be something in my house. I’ll spend the morning troubleshooting, of course, with different wires and such.
But, even when not split in my house, I am totally outside the range.
And just because you read the whole entry, you get a special pretty picture of Ashley Judd to look at. You lucky dog, you.

Aww… I love Ashley. Glad I made it through all the geeky stuff!
