Whizzing through the Athens Blogosphere like pee on the Taco Stand floor, it’s that damn movie quiz. First off, I will say that the answers given today may in no way resemble my answers if I took the quiz later today or last night. I can’t pick favorites. (quiz via :hannah: via :carrieoke:)
1. The last movie you went to see in a theater: I know this one! I went to see Casablanca at the Classic Center on Sunday. You may have heard of this film. I think it was up for an Oscar like a million years ago or something. My other two films of 2005 are The Aviator and In Good Company
2. The last movie you watched at home: I know that Kate and I watched Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle a few weeks ago. I have been watching a lot of TV on DVD lately and the movies have suffered.
3. How many movies do you own?
I have no idea. 50? I used to buy a lot of DVDs and then I got a ReplayTV and that was about it for me. I have recently started to, um, acquire new movies so my collection is growing once again.
3a. What was the last movie you bought?
Garden State. Love it.
What are the next three movies in your NetFlix queue (or similar service)?
Ray, The Grudge, Key Largo. I figured I should see the first one, kind of sort of want to see the second, and put the third in after Casablanca the other day. Of course I have HUNDREDS in my queue that you peruse here.
5. List five movies you adore/mean a lot to you:
off the top of my head. in no order.
Clueless: Very funny movie. Murray keeping it real. Elton leaving his Cranberries CD in the quad. Legs crossed towards one another as an unequivical sex invite. Paul Rudd back before I had problems with him. Seen it dozens of times.
Wayne’s World: When :Susan: and I saw this back in the day, we thought it was the greatest movie we had ever seen. We then vowed to see it as often as possible, trying to beat each other. I’m sure we have both lost track. I quoted Wayne’s World earlier today. I quote Wayne’s World every day in some tiny way.
Breakfast Club: I am the John Hughes Generation. Love this movie and Pretty In Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful. I saw this at the theatre in St. Simons whenever it came out. I think we saw it twice that vacation. Never liked the John Hughes comedies, but damn if don’t love me some teenage angst.
Trust and other Hal Hartley movies: This is entirely Christine’s fault. Back in the day at UGA, we worked at the place that ran the university cable system. UGA had its own movie channel back then and Christine chose to put Trust on as one of the four movies one week. We watched it at work everytime it came on and that lead to my Hal Hartly fixation. :Susan: and I used to go to the Manhattan and pretend to be in Hal Hartley movies. “Do you know the difference between digital and analog recording?”
Back To The Future: Love me some time travel movies. I have seen this movie multiple times. I saw it at Georgia Square mall the weekend it came out. It was some good stuff. Other time travel classics would be the first Bill and Ted and heck, I’ll even through in Peggy Sue Got Married for the time-as-a-buritto theory of temporal relocaton.
6. Name your guilty pleasure movie (or genre):
God help me, I have no idea why, but I really really really like The Thing Called Love with Samantha Mathis, River Phoenix, Sandra Bullock, and Dermot Mulroney. But yet, don’t own it. Perhaps for my own good.
7. Name 3 people to whom you’re going to pass these questions on, and why: :annemarie: stole :stephanie: who was totally going to be one of my three. How about I choose my two blogging ex-girlfriends :bonnie: and :amym: and I throw in a :susan: since she has been mentioned so many times in this post.
Everything in my house is covered under a thin layer of powdered sugar and fried. I cooked shrimp jambalaya which turned out very well as far as I am concerned. We listened to WWOZ from New Orleans on the radio. Hamil and Hannah made the beignets for us and there were/are SO MANY. My god.
Attending were: :amym:, :shawn:, :hannah:, :jocelyn:, :sam:, brad, hamil, and marit (german teacher staying with Joc). Don’t think I forgot anyone.
There is so. much. powdered. sugar.
Forgot: This weekend I got my first check from the google ads.
$121.00!
Everytime you click an ad an angel gets his wings.
Tired now. Why am I drinking coffee?
We are attempting jambalaya and beignets (if I can find the Cafe Du Monde mix at Kroger) tonight at my house around seven. All members of the athens blog world are invited just let me know if you are coming.
I am sitting in my living room at four in the morning listening to things fall outside and watching my power blink on and off. Good times. I hope that the things falling are not large trees. I bet it is just branches and ice. I think it is slightly above freezing so maybe the ice will melt off my dish and I can actually watch some TV. It’s not that I lack for something to watch, it’s just that I am angry that centimeters of ice can take down my system. We will be fixing this as soon as my world thaws.
To those reading this potentially: Are we still attempting the movie today? I would assume yes since it should be OK by afternoon. Did anyone go to Fluke? How was it?
Bored at home.
I left briefly to go to the gas station near my house. It smelled a lot like vomit in there. Don’t plan on going there again any time soon.
I am invited to :jocelyn:’s for dinner but don’t want to get stuck over there.
I used the new Picassa 2 from google to make a collage. It looks like something a stalker would have. Well, it does to me since I used pictures of Natalie.
My DirecTV dish is encased in ice and has not worked all day.
SUCKS.
kbyenow.
I had at least two people tell me that they did not want to get stranded at my house in the ice storm. WTF?
I have:
I’m just sayin’. There are worse places.
Oh-ee-oh-ee-oh ice ice.
I fell asleep after Kate and :Sam: left last night while I was watching TV. I woke up about 2:00 AM and haven’t managed to get back to bed yet. This means that at some point today I will need to take an extended nap. I can hear the freezing rain outside and it sounds like it is cold and nasty out there.
I want to go to Fluke today but I also have BUNCHES of comics and DVDs that are calling my name. I have also realized that I miss my brit-soap Eastenders so I’m catching up on the synopses of past episodes (I’m in November 04 right now)and I have downloaded episodes from all of this past week. How could I ever have strayed away for so long. I tried watching last Monday’s earlier today and all the wrong people were sleeping together. That’s what prompted my synopses quest.
Self-Restraint :Shawn: and :Jenny: cancelled our scrabble plan so :Sam: and Kate and I sat around and I showed Sam how to burn DVDs on her laptop and we all watched TV and ate take-out from Inoko Express (Kate and Me) and Taco Bell (:Sam:).
:jocelyn:’s exchange teacher has arrived.
It is my turn to cook on Monday, now dubbed MondayGras? I am going to attempt to make jambalaya with shrimp (so kate can eat). I have only ever made it with chicken but I doubt it will make any diff. And of course, we will attempt beignets. Can anybody suggest anything else? Where can I get shrimp that needs NOTHING else done to it other than cooking.
Heads, veins, and tails are grody to the MAX.
So, if someone wants to drag me from the house, call. Otherwise, you all know where I will be.
