These Kids Today!

Did you guys know that emo music promotes cutting? I thought it just made me feel that way! Michelle Malkin describes cutting as “the new youth craze” in this article. Can it really be a “new youth craze” when BH9 had an episode about it in 1998? Link to article from Gawker.

And speaking of the kids, they all talk funny too!

Oh, Cold Parasols

Alps Road School wants to buy the letters that my Mom bought at the auction back. She bought the letters from the front of the school that spelled ALPS ROAD SCHOOL. It’s unfortunate because she could also have used them to spell:

A Cad Rolls Hoops
So Hops A Collard
A Roach Sold Slop
Oops, A Doll Crash
Or, A Colossal PHD

But, I guess they will spell ALPS ROAD SCHOOL. How boring.

Hail

So, at what point do I start responding to the comments in the Monitoring The Culture: “Zoey 101” comments section from some faked jamie lynn email account?

Went to work, had lunch with Shawn and Kent, watched a hail storm, worked some more, went to the Lariscy’s, had dinner at Jocelyn’s, watched a hail storm, came home, fell asleep minutes later.

Hamil is going to teach my class Wednesday and Friday. He’s gonna learn them some Flash.

Saturday

The J&J Center provided Kate and I with needless items for our various collections. I bought a Budwine bottle and a book on Pennsylvania Dutch barn hexology. Kate bought a couple of rings. We went downtown and got comics afterwards. They had bunnies for $10 and :sam: better hope that there isn’t one in her shack when she gets back from NYC next week.

:jocelyn: came over and we watched some TV in the afternoon and then we went to Atlanta for dinner for Hamil’s birthday. We went to Lenox and visited the Apple Store, Pottery Barn Kids, Williams-Senoma, and the Discovery Store. We had 9:15 reservations at Maggiano’s and finally got to eat at closer to 10:00. It was me, Sharon, Hamilton, Zachary, Jocelyn, Jason (Hamil’s roommate), Kasey (Jason’s friend), and Jill (Kasey’s friend). Dinner was good and extremely filling of course. Jocelyn and I got back to Athens at about 1:00. We were invited to go out in Atlanta but I didn’t want to be driving back at 3:00 AM.

Meeting :hannah: and various others for brunch in a bit. I have gotten sucked into “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer” this morning. 3 of the 8 people at out table at dinner had never heard of Cary Grant. Kids today!

Friday Night Downtown

I went downtown about 8:00 last night and hung out at Hot Corner for a while until Kate woke up from her nap and came downtown. We went down the street to X-Ray Cafe and watched Kyle Dawkins and then Erik and the Watchlist.

The second band was improvisational (with a one of a kind instrument which was very cool) but I was coming down off my caffeine buzz and getting kind of squirmy in my seat after an hour. Erik grades 8th grade papers and introduced us to the word “surprisually” which I plan to use at least twice this weekend.

After the show, I talked to :jenny: on the phone and then Kate wanted to go to 283 to see some of her friends from school. We walked up there and talked to them for a few minutes and then we went to the T-Stand to get Kate dinner. :shawn: called while we were there and said that he and Jenny were at Clocked! having dinner.

Kate went back to 283 and I walked to see those guys. On the way, I got to pass the former location of previously-favorite bar Lunch Paper which is now going to be a T-Mobile. Rock on, Athens!

We sat at Clocked! for a bit and then went back to Hot Corner where I saw Mark
studying and we discussed the recent lesbianism on The O.C. and things related to the Pretense Barbie bookclub. I am convinced they are meeting without me since I never finished The World According to Garp.

Shawn, Jenny, and I sat there for a while and did interet quizzes and talked about work for an hour or so. I did not want to play scrabble because I am still not over the “grok incident” of last August.

I walked outside and called Kate to see if she wanted me to come pick her up wherever she was and I looked up and she was in front of me. I think she might have travelled through the phone signal like the Atom.

I came home and fell asleep while watching the new Battlestar Galactica which has become my new Friday night post-bar tradition.

I woke up this morning, finished watching Galactica, made coffee, made cheese toast, and blogged this.

Kate should be done with Tai Chi soon and we are going to go to J&J or garage sales or something. Last week’s adventure to the school auction has whetted my appetite for collection.

That is all. Please go to another website now.
